Wait till early evening on a Sunday when management isnt' around. That's what we used to do with out old place. Now we have a garage, so we don't worry about it.

Your other option is get a job at Pep Boys so you can do it there!!! lol...that's what Casey always did.

The way I see it, you have three options:

    1. Do it anyway
    2. Bring it to a real mechanic
    3. Make friends with someone who will let you do it in their driveway/garage

Dont go to jiffy lube or Walmart.

My complex says no maintance either and I do it myself.

What I did was get a fram sure drain and that made sure that I dont get oil on the driveway.

some complexes will fine people if they're caught doing it on the property...my homeowner's association has the same rule, and we DO get fined...so i'd say don't do it on the property.

i'd say make some friends in the area, and ask if you can't borrow their driveway...till then, take it to a true mechanic.

Same rule where I am, but I just park it in the garage, close the door, and let it drain for 30 minutes while I go do other things. Try risking it once and see if they stop you or not.

Most associations and housing communities usually frown upon DIY work in your space. It can go from fines and breach of contract (lease) or nothing at all. Probably depends on how your neighbors like you - if your cool with them and the managment is OK with it - they may let you do simple maintenance, like oil changes. I live in a townhouse - but my neighbors like me. They don't mind as long as no oil is spilled and everything is cleaned up afterwards. Don't just blindly do it just because you can - you might piss off the wrong people and could cause you problems down the road. See if the managment will give you some slack and you might be OK.

    Good Luck.

Its stated in my lease that I cannot repair or even wash my car in the parking lot. Violating the lease can lead to eviction (depending on how strict they are). I was caught putting my corolla back to stock one day..I was covered in dirt and the manager rolled around (someone must of had to call cause the car looked like it was getting stripped..lol) and when she saw me, she just said hi and how things were and she left. not sure if she did that cause we just got finished settling a dispute a few days prior and she let it slide. but I dunno...I wouldn't do it. (I had to that day..it was short notice).

depends on how quick you are. do it in an empty parking lot (a business thats closed on the weekend.)just make it look like your having car trouble. thats what i do in and out in 5-10 min at the most. like pulling a bank job.

you don't have to tell me i know i'm ghetto. so what !!!!!!!!!!!!

i've seen some people do it on the street - right outside their apartment complex.
for me, i do it myself but during winter months - i take it to a lube shop coz it's freaking cold outside or even in the garage!

I don't think they can fine you for changing the oil in your car because vehicals leak shit all the time on the pavement its part of a parking lot :) If your spill some oil just say it was already there its not like they can prove it came from your car. I dont like stupid rules like that so just break em. Just dont Ghetto up your spot while your doing your oil change keep things organized and professional looking.

it may help if you install one of those short hose thingy - looks sorta/kinda like a normal plastic hose and then u can turn it on/off to drain your oil. cant remember what you call it. you remove your drain plug and install this thing and it stays there for good. when u change oil, open this thing and oil comes out. not so messy. walmart have it and it comes in different sizes for different cars.

When I was in an apt complex I would work on car in the street---it wasn't that busy. If they're assholes about that than do it early morning or at night when the management isn't around.
