Engine intercooled TRD supercharger is it possible

    depends on how the supercharger feeds into the engine..... if it completely removes all of the stock piping and feeds directly into the intake manifold (ie, no piping)... then getting a TRD supercharger isn't the way to go.... you would need to move the s/c back, then fab a pipe running off of the end of it to an intercooler (at that point probably a top mount)... you would then need to fabricate mounts for it and find a new belt.... because you probably couldn't do this and keep it where it's mounted

    at 7psi, it should be ok.... if this s/c is like the older 4agze's where the ecu controls if the s/c is "on" or not (via a clutch built into the pulley) then you can essentially put a switch on it yourself if you're concerned... this is how i have my 87 mr2 setup

    interesting i would like to learn more about this, basically what your saying is like its a "boost controller" for a supercharger. could you explain more about that, im not exactly sure how that would work?

    If it was me I say its impossible on a root type s/c but according to some people i talked to SCC did a article about intercooled root types and hoolala told me toysport offer that service.

    intercooled TRD supercharger is it possible

    this spring, me and about 50 other people from the ny area are going to "gumball" down to MIAMI flordia... winner gets $5000. anyways thats not the point. im getting a TRD supercharger for Christmas and i was wondering if there was any way to intercool it, because i heard that superchargers heat up MAD quick. i dont want to be competeing in a 24hour strait drive and having my engine overheat or something. is there a intercooler out there for the sc/er, or any custom/ "homemade" intercoolers...

    please this is important

    what people usually do is put the intercooler between the air filter and the supercharger. U can try that but u need a very efficient and free flowing intercooler.

    Also superchargers don't really "heat up mad quick". Turbo's do. The trd supercharger does have a clutch which disengages when u're not hitting full throttle.

    All this would do is restrict air to the supercharger. The term "intercooler" is actually inaccurate. The real term for them is a charge air cooler (not the same). They are meant to do just that, cool the compressed air which has been heated through the compression and heat soak from the supercharger/turbo. Putting it before the supercharger would have about as much of an effect as putting one on an n/a car.

    Actually superchargers are notorious for getting hot. Although, yet, turbo's do get very hot, the fact that they come off of the exhaust makes them less prone to things like fire and possible heat soak of other parts.

    I didn't say it was a very efficient way of cooling air with superchargers but it work in certain applications. Also most supercahrgers rarely exceed 140 degrees F so there isn't really a need for an intercooler unless u're running an excessive amount of boost.

    that figure isn't correct...... that may be the case for a low psi low cc/min supercharger like TRD 7psi one for the 1zz..... my current sc12 running 10-12psi after running hard for a while can reach nearly 180*F of the air it's pushing in.

    that being said, that isn't the temp of the supercharger itself.... i have seen some at the tracks reach temps near 1,000*

    yea when running u're supercharger at a higher psi than normal u will end up overworking the supercharger which will cause the charge air temp to rise. in that case u will need some form of cooling. but for "red 03 corolla s" case he doesn't even need an intercooler with stock boost.

    um, all sc12's and sc14's are roots blowers...... not sure on the sc14, but the sc12 was definately intercooled.... i have one in the garage

    The TRD (Eaton) s/c is difficult to supercharge becuase it bolts directly to the motor. A custom setup can be done but it's going to cost a good amount of money and will take some time to make.

    My suggestion is to look into water injection. It basically taps into your intake and mist a water/methanol mix into the air to absorb some of the heat out of the air. Its the closest thing to intercooling there is.

    thanks for the input but im asking this not because of hp gains, anything like that but rather reliability. im traveling nearly 2000miles strait no stops, except for gas and food, will there be any problems of overheating with the supercharger?

    I've read 3 of your post and come to the conclusion that you know absolutely NOTHING about forced induction, so when you see a thread with the word supercharger or turbo in it... refrain from replying.

    Centrifugal setups are known for lower temperatures and being more efficient. The roots style's biggest downfall is, guess what... the temperature. A roots s/c doesnt compress air in the blower itself. It remains at the normal pressure. Compression occurs only when the air enters the manifold. When the discharge port opens and the low-pressure air from the s/c tries to enter the high-pressured manifold, some of it refuses to be shoved in and disperses itself backwards along the rotor faces and into the s/c's cavities. Then the next cycl the same air is compressed again making it even hotter. I've touched my s/c after a 15 mile trip home and its pretty hot.

    A pre-intercooler... give me a break

    red 03 corolla... Ive driven through 3 countries straight at speeds between 80-105 for about 13 hours straight with NO problems at all. So on a stock s/c setup you should be alright.

    my gze has stock pulleys on it.... 10-12psi on a latermodel 4agze is normal... pushing it is going to 14-15psi.....<br />

    and i doubt you actually have an air temp sensor that gives you an accurate numerical reading.....<br />

    I was just fuckin around because if u think about it TRD (which is toyota) would never bring a performance option out to the public with a warranty and have to worry about the cars overheating. There is no such thing as a pre-cooler.

    The s/c is actually pretty reliable at highway speeds, when the revs drop down in 5th gear, the blower isnt really working that much... and I was suprised at how well it responded when I got on it at 80mph... its just there.

    3 countries straight was in Europe (Italy, Austria, Germany), incase anyone was scratching their heads, haha. The autobahn is the greatest thing in the world. Its funny because I constantly pass Porsches who are riding the slow lane, but get passed by Corsa's and Fiat puntos who have their speedo pinned.

    you had your corolla imported to europe with you? why did you bring your car with you? just wondering thats all

    also on the autobahn did you get your car above 120? cause i know are cars are governed at that speed, i read about it never tested it :cool:

    I bought the Corolla over here through Military sales... I get it tax free and crap like that, haha. And the Rolla is DEFINATELY governed at like 113, haha. It reminded me a few times
