can any1 post a diy of disabling the airbag and removing the stock steering wheel, is there ne thing i shud look out for when doing sumthing like this?

Yea, its really easy to take it out. Thats why lots of people steal airbag and not go for ice. Cuz its so easy and they are expensive.

yeah, and get clocked in the face by an airbag goin 40+ mph i dont think so

dont the airbags hav their own seperate backup source or sumthin like that, i dont wana end up with half a face just cuz i want a new steering wheel.....

do u kno how to get the airbag out of its housing? or will it just come off when i remove the steering wheel, im assuming its connected to some sort of wire for the censors

I assume it should be some kind of clip connector.

From the steering wheel, for a 93-97 corolla, i know you take the cover off of the right side of the column behind the wheel, then there should be a screw or something, once you have that, you should be able to pull it out. Also, correct me if im wrong (cuz i cant go check my car to see if this would be right cuz im in a library n a bunch of people want online) but there could be a cover situated somewhere under your steering column and that should house the connector. All you do to that is unplug it and your airbag is disabled. And i dont think there is a backup thing to it cuz when i took my passenger side airbag out, it was just the airbag housed in the airbag compartment thing and behind that was the CO2 can or whatever is used to inflate the airbag. It was really simple looking.

Uh.....i wouldnt try to do anything unless you either disable your battery or disable the airbag....thats one thing that i would not want to find out the answer to the hard way...

If I were you, I would disconnect the battery first just in case anything happens. It costs a lot to replace an airbag.

I remove my airbags all the time cause I am repainting my interior just disco the battery wait about 15min. you may need a special tool to undo the bolts on the sides of the steering wheel (I did for my 00 corolla). the tool was a star drive. If I am not mistaken the airbags go off when the sensors around the car are crushed at certain positions. If you know where they are and any are crushed then you might wanna hold off.

if my sensors are crushed wont the airbags go off during the initial crushing? or will they go off when i try to remove my steering wheel even after the 15 minute battery disconect thing?

The airbag shouldnt go off when you remove the steering wheel. You remove the airbag before you remove the actual wheel anyway. Disconnect the battery to be safe though.

how exactly do i access the airbag? where is it housed

a co-worker of mine has a evo VIII and hit a deer head on crushed his sensors but bag never went off. Brand new car and he didnt even tune it yet. It's just to be safe...can't be too safe.

The airbag won't go off just because you're yanking on the steering wheel. They'd have to put in a steering wheel yanking sensor for that, just in case you're in an steering wheel yanking accident. For the most part, just disconnect the battery like everyone says.

ne suggestions/precautions on putting in the hub adaptor

fuck it im gonna disconnect the battery and try 2 change it, hopefully i wont be assed out without a steering wheel, or dead from an airbag wound to the mouth
