If you swap the tach it also changes the miles to what ever the milage was on the donor car of the tach (meaning it's the donor cars miles that are displayed instead of yours) I think there is a way to change it but I am not sure how to do it. When I swapped mine everything worked fine. No extra wiring or anything like that...tach worked fine

crap, but you say there is a way to get the miles from my current car onto the donor cluster? would toyota be able to do it or how does it work? cause there is one on ebay for like 50-60 shipped. and i would love that tach instead on an aftermarket one

I don't know. I heard that you can swap over the LCD screen and the part attached to it to change the miles but I have also heard that there is some kind of "tamper proffing" that Toyota does to keep people from odometer fraud. That's the only reason I haven't tried it. You should go down to Toyota and ask the techs...maybe if they're in a good mood they'll answer you. :D

I did this swap myself just pop open both cluster and swap the odo part (the part includes the whole speedometer area) everything is plug and play you may get an evil turn signal / rear defroster problem but i think thats only on 01/02 swaps 99 should be fine.

    Its pretty easy to do...

I didnt see any tamper proofing gadgets or anything but there probably are atleast some serial numbers that dont match... :p

    Instrument cluster

will a used instrument cluster w/tach fit on my 99 ce with no problem? should all the wiring be exactly the same? I read on here before that the tach is electronically monitored, so by plugging the new cluster in, it should automatically enable the tach. also, installing a different clustor doesnt effect the mileage reading right? sorry if this is a newb q.

its pretty easy... total time was about 10mins. Its almost impossible to break anything if you just be carefull. I feel great with my new tach. It really looks great 200% better than the normal w/o tach one.

If your getting a good deal like me (got mine for about $40) you should buy it they're becoming hard to come by

50-60 seems like a nice deal... i got mine from used_part_hunter or something like that in ebay... its a really good seller and they have very fast shipping... you should give them a look
