    Transmission fluid flush cost?

    Hi, all

    My car just hit 35,000 miles (03 S rolla auto), and needing a transmission flush. Toyota dealer told me it's $129 including labor. Is that reasonable? How much did you pay?

    I was also told that break pads need to be replaced soon, and they quoted $250 including labor. I would rather install it myself, but I haven't done it before. How hard is it to install myself? or how much would I expect to pay for the work?

    I would appreciate your input.

    That seems a bit pricey. I know you can get it done for less. I was fortunate that my friend worked at a garage and that her boss was cool. He only charged me $30. As for the rear brakes, They aren't that hard to do. Just keep track of all the pieces. Be sure to get replacement springs and such. I think the hardest part will be installing the return spring, and possibly adjusting the pads. Here's my tips page:

    ok- transmission cost you were qouted is reasonable- thats what dealerships typically charge... as far as brakes- are we talkin fronts or rears here or both? fronts should be around 100 bucks, same as rear (this DOES NOT include resurfacing of drums and rotors, expect to pay over 40 dollars for each rotor, and over 60 dollars for each drum)- rears are a bitch to work on- trust me! fronts are a walk in the park- just get a manual w/ pics;

    Is it a flush or a drain and refill ?? (approx 3 qts for drain and refill) Inspect and clean screen.Our dealership does latter for $69.95

    Too high on pads, rears should be fine OEM pads $45-50, labor 30-45 each side if you leave the rotors alone. Run the rotors until the next set of pads then replace them.

    well

    I had 30,000 mile service a little while ago, so the transmission fluid was replaced, but all the hoses and stuff are dirty without the flush, so I was told I need on.

    For the breaks, it would for front and rear...

    the tranny flush cost seems about right, considering it is a dealership. $250 for brakes is outrageous unless they're doing the rears too... which you shouldnt really need at 35k unless you drive like a freakin maniac. You can do front brake pads yourself for less than $50 in about an hour.

    its a flush- they hook up a big machine that forcefully pushes new tranny liquid through the whole system- my question STILL is whether or not the differential is flushed too on my 3 speed... which is a separate compartment from the tranny..

    They flushed the transmission at 30,000 miles???? That seems wrong. I thought a transmission change was at 80 or so. And at the dealership I use to work at a flush was 80 bucks.

    I think 30,000 miles if for autos, its a lot longer for manual.
