    What is this thing?

I've always wondered what this wire harness is for, does anyone know? (in 01S). It comes from above the pedals

is maybe the big 1 the ob2 output? might wanna check if its still in its place, otherwise it looks like an aftermarket alarm used to be there and wasnt removed properly

She's right guys. Its for an alarm that was taken off. Those are the harness that plugs into an alarm's brain and a sensor. I know this cause I've intalled my own alarm. Dunno if thats what used to be a factory alarm, but it used to have an alarm.

I can tell you withouth a doubt that waht you are looking at is an aftermarket alarm harness just like everyone else said. I have installed too many of those not to recognize them. Like azn_spice said it may be a audiovox prestige, but in reality a lot of the older and even current alarms use the same harness.

The extra green/red wires are probably for the power lock pulses.

Anyway you can probaly find a similar alarm, and if the cables are not cut it may just plug right in! But you are probably better off having someone taking all the cabling off since it is not doing anything there.

The dealership probably installed an aftermarket alarm in the car, but why did they take it off beats me.

So it might be really easy for me to install an alarm if I wanted to?
I got the car at the dealership that was "one at this price." I have no idea why they would install and remove an alarm. Are there any other cables flying around up there for alarms?
Another idea: I can use the wires for something else huh? Like for LED's! wooo

This came with the car from the factory. I am the only owner of the car. It was like this from day one although I usually tuck it up back there don't leave it hanging. I don't have an alarm so maybe they took it out? Wierdness

Sounds like people are still confused as to exactly what this is!

It's an aftermarket wiring harness to an alarm.
The big red wire is the power wire, it has an inline fuse on it, which you can see taped up farther up the wire. This is meant to supply power to some device. It looks like the big white wire is a constant power wire maybe from the ignition harness. Those little wires probably control lights, door locks, and windows. The smaller harness probably went to the antenna module, probably goes up the left side pillar and up to the center of the windshield.

The only onther thing that is under the dash that looks similar is a port that snaps into the plastic panel underneath the steering column. I don't know what it's called, but I think it's for computer diagnostics.

That's what people are getting it confused with.

So do all Corolla's come with this wiring harness stock or did the dealer make this for an aftermarket alarm they never installed?
