YOU PAID HOW MUCH???????????

I hope that is a typo? That would be like 2 grand more than the car is worth.

not necessarily true. '91 turbo's average 7k-8k. with over 100,000 miles.

an item is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it.
for example the AE86 is going for a nice round figure of 3000-5000 is it worth that? no. but as long as someone is willing to pay for it for that price, it is.

there are good deals every now and then. but not all the time.
other factors also come into play. scarcity of item in a given area. i see 240SX's go for a pretty penny in places like Kansas, etc..

SW20 MR2 is sooo cheap in US!
They cost around CDN$11000 for NA, around CDN$18000 for turbo. :(

yes i know but, the market for mr2's down here is really shitty. the cars are either riced out or in crappy condition and prices for turbos are in the 5 digits. my car is in good shape, has alot of records, and the previous owner was a car guy so i had no problem paying the asking price.

I honestly had no clue that the market was so good for them. My friend has one, and he paid right at blue book. I thought he got ripped but he is happy with the car. 5 speeds are great man. Have fun with the car.

Have fun with the RWD celica gt and camry engine :). I love those style mr2's, but only a N/A JDM version or a turbo, cause of the 3SGE and 3SGTE. The mr2 n/a is slow, 135hp like the GT celica.

cheapest Mr2 I could find in chicago area was $2800 for a beat-up 1991 without turbo and about 130k miles. A turbo in decent shape is more like $6k. $4800 might be a little pricey for what you got.

HAHA, my dad has a 97 celica GT with same engine thats in the mr2, and iv seen them when i hang out with car people in the city. But those turbo ones, man those are bad ass. There is one person who converted his to a 3SGE jdm and made driver side to right side, thats bad ass also.

With same engine doesn't mean the car will run the same.
ZZW30 MR2-S using our Corolla, Celica GT 1ZZ-FE engine too. But it runs as quick (if not quicker) as Celica 2ZZ GTS.

    MR rocks. :D

Since we're on the topic, what's the legroom/headroom like in an Mr2? (1990-1994). Is it better or worse than a corolla? I know the older ones were really cramped

a buddy of mine who is at least 6" taller than me (i'm 5'10") fits fine in my aw11..... he was surprised at how much room there actually was even though it's such a small car..... he has yet to drive it (don't really let other people drive this car... it's a bit squirrely... only person i HAVE let drive was trying to help me tune it.... and with major clutch slippage he claimed "this car is a beast")

Wait, are we talking about the last gen of Celicas and MR2s? And are we talking straight line or twisty?

The Celica GT's 1ZZ is rated at 140 HP, MR2-S is 138, and I think the Corolla is rated at 130 (correct me if I'm wrong). They're tuned slightly differently, and I think the air intake and exhaust setups are different too.

The MR2-S will kill both Celica GT and GTS on curves, no contest. 50/50 weight balance, RWD vs. 65/35, FWD. On a straight line the RWD and light weight gives the MR2 the edge over the GT, but a GTS properly driven can beat it.

Now, if you could somehow swap a 2ZZ in the MR2, then we're talking about a real machine!

Lift kicking in when you're going through a corner wouldn't be so great, imho..lol

Some guy near me did swap a V6 (200+hp/tq) into an MRS -- now *that* has got to be a fun car.
