    tips on winning.

i have a 01 corolla with nothing really done to it. Just trd muffler and removed air reservoir. My friend has a 96 civic EX (vtec d16y8 motor) completely stock. My friend and i test our cars against each other on a straightaway and this is what happened. I had him on the launch, 1st and 2nd gear, and he just takes over by about 1/2 a car after that. What can i do to make my car even the slightest bit faster than his?

Well, you can do the basics, intake, FULL exhaust, lighter flywheel, etc.

    (Have a look at www.monkeywrenchracing.com)

If you want some serious power that will really make a difference, you need either N20 (cheapest and quite reliable if done right), or turbocharged (also reliable when done right, but not cheap).

Do you have any extra weight in your car (sub, tools, people), if so, try removing them next time your race him. Try getting a true CAI (like the E.L. Prototypes), also, maybe just do a good general tune-up on your engine. Or you could always buy a nitrous system, and right when he is about to pass you...

    Auto or manual?

Clutch/flywheel may help your launch/shifting a little...exhaust will help out the mid-high end..and better tires can do wonders for your launch, too.

Out of four people replying so far, you're the only one to mention that...lol :p

Kenny...do what they are saying and it should help...ELP CAI, lightened flywheel, better tires, remove spare and jack, remove system in trunk if any, and learn to shift better...know when your peak power is, redline mostly is not the heart of the HP/TQ
