in my current setup- 2.5 inch mandrel bent w/ dynomax super turbo on the back, during WOT, there's seems to be a HUGE buildup of power right past 3500rpm like Cadetlee said, its pretty intense- but what am i talking about? i have a 1.6L for krikes sake...

    Poll:Muffler or Cat-back

Well, I"m slowly but surely getting out of my "ricey" stage and I want you guys' opinions on this...

I had an e-bay muffler welded on and there's a bit of custom piping but not much...I'm thinking maybe I'll get better sound (and a better look) from a cat-back exhaust system. Personally I like how my muffler sounds, but I've never really heard it on the road before from outside the car. Before you make a decision, watch/listen to this:
    https://home.comcast.net/~glennnath...age/muffler.wmv
    (right-click and save please)

You can also check out my cardomain page (link in sig) to see how it looks...

So should I stick with what I've got or shell out another $300+ for a cat-back?

cat back..muffler's are crap and if you wanna get rid of the ricey stage, i suggest you get rid of the tailights also, those and any kind of altezzas are horrid

Glad to see someone willing to give up rice :p

Definitely go with catback, you can actually get power gains, and it definitely will sound better.

I would say go with the cat back because if you're gonna make you're car loud might as well get something out of it. On the other hand your current muffler looks fine and if you like the sound of it maybe you should keep it because after being through two exhausts I have to say I don't feel any difference. Also I was looking at your cardomain page, is that a huge scrape on your back bumper? Or just a funny picture? I would get that fixed before you spend money on a exhaust pipes.

It's a scrape... I got the car from my aunt and she wasn't the best of drivers...
I've got a lot of dings and scrapes all over the car and I'm getting all of those fixed when I get my body work done. I just wanted to take care of some of the less-expensive things first.

cat-back is the *best* choice. But, if you're just interested in sound quality, a Magnaflow muffler would be a good improvement. They have a much more mellow tone. I have a universal SS 5"x8" on my 03 Corolla. Doesn't sound ricey at all. Maybe a 1hp gain, but it sounds better than most mufflers out there.

definitly- whatever you do- GET A REMOVABLE SILENCER w/ the catback's muffler- if it DOESNT have one- well, just get ready for headache... what you could do also like corollaULEV just said, weld on a magnaflow or dynomax oval muffler for a softer tone- which sounds awesome at high rpms rather than a drone (typically with bullet shaped mufflers)

I have a 2.25" catback with a resonator and a straight-through exhaust -- it's loud, but not annoyingly so. I was quoted $75 for a catback, installed..they're not that expensive unless you want mandrel bent. Mandrel is better, but I doubt you'd notice a difference unless you install a turbo/sc.

go catback, 2.25" - 2.5" 2.5 will give you a deeper tone, but will loose 'some' power.

either way, get a 24-30" resonator on. it will make the sound more humble.

I seemed to pick up a little power above 3500rpm..maybe my butt dyno is lying. :p

I couldn't tell any difference with my CAI, though..none at all.
