Hid Questions

Could anyone tell me what I would need to get a real HID lighting system in my 04 corolla? Im clueless in this department and want to know how much everything would run me, everything I need, how much installation is, how long they last, and the different colors available..I know its alot but like I said, I dont know shit about these things.....

If you want to do it RIGHT, you need

Projector Lenses
Bulbs
Ballasts
Spare set of headlight enclosures, cuz this project takes time
Misc. Tools/Hardware
Lots of creativity

I recently installed mine, w/a lot of help from Sean: Sylvania Xenarc bulbs, Osram Ballasts, Osram/Valeo ECE/DOT Projectors...

the output is AMAZING, but would be no where near as amazing w/o the lenses. Don't fall for those "plug and pray" HID kits that come in specific sizes like 9006 or H4, cuz a) the output won't be as nice, and b) it'll blind the HELL out of everyone and c) you'll probably get pulled over, real fast. Lenses create a nice sharp cutoff that you can aim so you don't blind other poor drivers.

That still doesn't make it 100% legal, you would need auto leveling motors, but that's not exactly feasible given the amount of room we have under the hood.

It took me about 6 hours to install, it's a 6000k kit (so far, it's nicer and whiter than all the infinitis and bmw's i've passed on the freeway), and cost a good arm and a leg (I think all items included, plus hardware and spare housings, it ran about $8-900).

Lemme know if you want pics

Numbers determine the light output color... Ever notice how some are blue, white, purple?

I believe OEM Factory HID's, lets say on a 3-Series BMW or a G35 are about 4300K. If I drive up next to one of them my lights are significantly whiter. 6000K has a slightly more blueish hue but looks pure white on the ground. Any higher and you'll be sacrificing lumens (amount of light output) for color. Any HID will give you a purple-ish tint when looking head on if thats what you're after.

I'll post pics after work!

And legal limit? As long as your lights don't look off the wall, I wouldn't worry about it.

Should outlast the life of your vehicle.
The output has a little glare that hopefully my shrouds will take care of, as soon as they arrive.

I've got an 8000k HID kit in my 03. I'm using the factory headlight housings still. I do blind the shit outta people, but you can't aim them enough to not blind people.

    Someday i'll get some projectors....
