a kid i know drilled a half inch hole in the bottom of his muffler near the back. when he wants it loud, he leaves the hole open. otherwise plugs it with a metal plug that screws in. just get an intake

    making a muffler sound louder....?

yet another question. i had my TRD muffler installed sounds kinda good, but i was wonderin is there a way to make it louder w.out removin the cat converter(?) and yet its CA smog legal? The guy that installed it said to take out the resonasce (?)..(a 'cushion' to prevent loudness). will that make it TOO loud? suggestions? I kinda want it loud. :D

Yeah - removing a resonator is gonna wake up the neighbors for sure. I agree - an intake has ownage all over removing the resonator - and the best thing about it...it's only loud if you want it to be. All you have to do to quieten it down is let off the gas or change gears. Not like a muffler - much much better, IMHO.

I have an AEM CAI for an 2003-04 Corolla/Matrix (1ZZ flavor) for $100 if you want it.

you should get new piping and a new straight-through resonator installed somewhere after your cat.

actually there is a kit on the market that allows you to open exhaust from the header and then it will close it for street driving its only like 150 bucks too, great for FI cars
the videos are incredible on that site!!!

my friend rezurex has a download of a supercharged CL-type S with one on it.

he does a run with it closed first and you can hear the supercharger whine, then he opens it up and all you can here is a raw exhaust flowing threw, defining loud!!!

I don't know what's the whole point of making an exhaust louder, I still don't get it.

Oh well, louder exhaust = no cats, no resonator, no muffler.
That for a daily driver, you'll get sick of it in about 2 days.

My TRD muffler was always loud enough for me. But on the subject does anyone remember back in the days the Mitsubishi 3000GT how it came with an option of a switch that you could turn to make it louder and quieter? What was the thinking behind that???

If you want louder, get a fart can and sell your trd muffler.

yeh electric cutout valve is the way to go, but you need to put it in a place that won't be seen easily, yet still direct it downwards. Anybody that does want to go this route, Mccord makes them for 40 dollars cheaper than the qtecs

    louder

there's only one thing you can do to make your ride louder.
get rid of that trd muffler. get an after-cat exhaust setup or
    get it customize.

if you want to go illegal get a new resonator pipe such as the magnaflow and then clean out the second converter... it will be louder than the trd muffler by itself yet not ricey like a fart can muffler.
