Yes it is necessary on both accounts.

My other DIY, Dynamat Extreme Speaker installation, does remove the door panel and the speaker (to apply the Dynamat Extreme) so you will definitely want to check that out.

    It is not that hard!

    Ciao for now..

    Speaker replacement in 93-97

Hello, this Xmas I plan to swap out the speakers and headunit in my 95 DX. From the DIY for rear speaker removal posted in this section, speaker removal was more work than I thought. So my question is, for a 93-97 Corolla, will I have to remove the door panels and the rear deck cover in order to swap out speakers? If yes, for a mechanically chanllenged (n00b) person, would it be possible given the right tools? And lastly, with the door panel removed, will putting it back be just as easy...I mean...how easy is it to screw up and have it not fit back on or something. Thanks for the help

PS I am away for college so I can't actually go look at the car...hence I asked if removal was necessary.

yea, i just recently switched out all my speakers...u do have to remove the door panels and the rear deck, which on the dx is easy because the seats fold...did it on my friends corolla base and it was a pain in the ass...but as for the door panels going right on...not so for me...i had to trim back the cardboard crap for it to fit on right...other than that, its pretty easy...

Old thread bump...I just received my new rear speakers from Crutchfield. Their instructions said to remove the rear seats as well, but is that necessary? Can I just remove the third brake light, then just lift off the rear deck panel? Thanks

OK great news for me then..also for the door panels...can't just I just remove that lower area? Do I really need to remove whole door panel? Thanks

P.S. For the headunit install, the instructions said to remove the climate control "knobs"...so I need to remove the slider things by pulling them out and get the rear window defrost and emergency light buttons too right?

By control knobs you mean the lil plastic things you slide left to right correct? They pull off? And the buttons (hazard light, rear windshield defrost)? Thanks
