Is the Passport 8500 radar detector any good?

I just got this today for my b-day, but I can't open it because if I do and don't like it, there is a 15% stocking fee :(......I wondered if there is anyone out there that new anything about it or if anyone had any experience with it, thanks

like jspexae102 said its one of the best and sometimes considered the best. The only radar that is rated better than it is the Valentine 1 but is around $200 more than the 8500.

Listen to everyone else about getting the V1, I had both the 8500 and the V1 and I sold my 8500 and have been driving with my Val ever since. Love the damn thing.

Thats funny. All the tests that I've seen show that the only reason why the 8500 is considered is because the V1 is TOO sensitive.

And yes the directionals work...here's my story.

I'm driving down a road that began going uphill a few yards up. My V1 goes off and shows two cops ahead, so I slow down a bit and pass ONE cop tagging people. I looiked at my directionals and it now had one behind me and one still in front. Sure enough at the top of the hill was another officer tagging people.
