    i'm building quite the stable..

it would appear i've got a knack for finding cars on the cheap.

someone just offered me his first gen RX7.

you bet your butts i jumped on it. as far as i'm concerned, this is a steal...and the motor's infinitely upgradeable since it's starting out N/A.

the rebuild won't be too hard. i know some folks who know what they're doing with them, so that could be a good project for the spring. that, or getting a refurbed core...i haven't decided which yet.

    pictures to come after Saturday.

    we'll see.

i have a third option. it turns out a local guy owns a bunch of Grand National motors...and they run 12sec or better in the quarter. i'm going to see if i can buy one off him, and for how much. i've been talking it over with the boyfriend for the past hour, trying to think of how to fit it in...and we THINK it'll work.

    i'll keep people posted :)

3 rotor would be easiest, but a GN swap would be sweet if you guys are sure it'll fit.

actually, the 3 rotor is almost too big.

there's a guy on RD who's done the GN swap...so i'm going to talk to him about it. HOPEFULLY i'll get some good info :)

i have two options ahead of me as far as the motor goes.

1 - drop in a 350. i have a friend who's done this in his FC, and it's fast as all get out. not to mention, it's loud as hell. i'm seriously considering this option.

2 - get a 3 rotor. this is another seriuos consideration. i know motorex can get them for like $2500.

the real question is, which do i want to do? the 350 would be significantly less maintenance, and it would cost less to do...but i don't know if it'll fit. the 3 rotor would just be really really cool...so i'm torn.

we'll see what happens in springtime :)

    w00t!

i just got the car today, and though it's not in showquality shape, what would one expect for a daily driver? there's small bits of rust here and there, and a nice dent in the hood that needs to be banged out...but everything works, even the stereo(decent speakers, too!)

my rundown(what i could remember from this afternoon...it was a long, migrainey day:(
the hood - corner's dented, needs to have that banged flat and repainted
rear driver quarter panel - needs paint
small (less than a pencil eraser size) spot of rust under the hatch glass - seen only when glass is lifted up.
rust under doors - minor, easy enough to sand off and paint over
small dents/dings - typical for a daily driver
need to replace driver taillight and sidemarker, thanks to previous owner's son getting hit in it.

other than that...the previous owner was a nonsmoker, so i'm good to go on the interior smell. it's got power windows ONLY (no power locks...so no actuators/solenoids to worry about replacing), and those work. the sunroof is manual lift and remove...and we tested that, so the crank is good. the glass is all good - no fogginess, sealed nicely.

of course, i'm forgetful, and the camera stayed home. stupidstupid me. pics soon, promise.

So now you have the Rolla, a new Cav, an old cav, and an RX-7? That's pimp. There's no way I could afford all of the registration and insurance on all of that here in Cali.

    no, not a new cavalier.

and the only one that's insured is the one that's on the road...soon to be 2. with the 7 on the insurance as the primary driver, and only paying comprehensive on it, my insurance went up like $2 a year...no joke. insurance companies see that as a 1985 vehicle as the daily driver, instead of the newer, more expensive car...that's gooood on the wallet :)

    the cav won't have registration either...it's a track-only car.
