    What car would you get?

Alright, im tired of all the problems my car is having, although the 4AGZE swap is not out of the question still, 170hp rated with lsd version.

But im looking at spending 7000, this includes trade of my car, i figure private selling i can prolly get 3000 out of it.

Here are my options, i prefer a V6, but 4 will work, id like rwd or awd, but fwd will be ok.
---I will be fixing the car up.

    4AGZE swap
    1996 Nissan Maxima
    1993 MR2 Turbo
    1998-2000 Subaru Impreza RS 2.5L
    1991 Supra Turbo
    1989-1995 Nissan 240sx with SR20DET swap or RB25DET
    1989-1993 Celica All-Trac
    1995-1997 Eclipse GSX

If anyone else has good options please let me know. But what to do? So many options, and cant make up my mind really. I know all those go for around 7000.

In order of what I would look for first.

    1- 1993 MR2 Turbo
    2- Celica All-Trac
    3- Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS
    4- Eclipse GSX
    5- 240SX
    6- 1991 Supra Turbo
    7- 1996 Maxima

Added... 91-93 Toyota Cressida 6Cyl (BMW (of that time) handling, RWD, N/A Supra Engine)

id go with the MR-2 or All-Trac. The MKIII Supra if you have the $$ to maintain it.

    240. they're a dime a dozen, easily aquired, and there's a buttload of aftermarket support for them.

    240. u can find used ones for 500 and up. Buy it cheap...get a nice clean lip kit....paint it...do the sr20 swap and tune the suspension and you'll have a very clean car for 7k.

i say go for the 240. most easily acquired of all those, and the most readily available parts and support.

1: 240sx with an sr20 swap. The Rb would be way over u're budget.
2: Nissan Max cuz the motor is one of the best in its class and can easily be modded.
    3: Mister 2 turbo
4: Supra mk3 but getting a car that old u're gonna run into problems with things breaking.
5: Impreza is nice car but can't do much with them without a swap or turbo kit. Also there tranny's suck.
6: All-Trac (but there very rare and the one's I've seen down here are beaten to hell.

I wouldn't get an eclipse cuz I"m not a fan. The Evo though is whole different story.

I like Montana's advice of getting a cressida but those in those year they only had auto's. U would definetely have to do a tranny swap. Hell I would just get a 7MGTE motor and tranny.

Id go with the All-trac because they are rare, and one of the nicest looking cars around. The 5th gen Celica is actually the best Celica made IMO..the all-trac took everything good about Toyota and put it in one car. Iv seen one all-trac before...and would love to take one out for a spin! You can do lots of things to the 3S-GTE and easily get it up to 250HP. :( I miss my 93 GTS now!

Yeah, the celica would be hard as shit to find, so its out unless one came across. Im leaning more towards the 240, maxima, or swap. I mean i love the corolla, and a swap would be nice, then later switch to turbo setup maybe. To many choices, i got about a month to decide still.

Its the 2.5 RS. It comes with the larger of the 2 4cyl engines (the EJ25) and there are turbo kits for it.

The automatic transmissions are indeed junk and the early WRX manual transmission has issues with second gear self-destructing due to very hard driving.

I love how almost every "what car should I get" or "i'm deciding on these cars" threads, someone ALWAYS lists the celica all-trac, and no one EVER gets it, and no one will ever get it i'm sure.

The all-trac is rare, but could be found. I still post alot of celica.net, and many owners their have all-tracs (aka GT4). You could also check out alltrac.net (i think that what its called). The last year for the ST185 (5th gen all-trac) in North America was 1993. The 1993 model year was very rare, and very few were sold. Most alltracs that you will come across are 1990-1991, and some 1992. Most of those cars still have their original owners, or maybe a 2nd owner. Regardless they are now getting to that age where people get rid of them. Now the difference between a 5S-FE Celica with 150k, and a 3S-GTE with 150k in terms of reliability and cost is drastic. However the benifits of owning such a great car are not for the light-hearted. Given a chance to own one I would probably have to decline due to high insurance, and repair costs.

Im just sad I couldnt keep my GTS and store it for a few years and fix it up!

I never said that they didn't make turbo kits for the car and I was speaking about the 2.5rs which is an impreza. The auto's and manuals both are problem items on the 2.5rs. The manual is known not to handle more than the stock torque amount. I had to help a friend rebuild a tranny once and swap it twice after that because the shit kept on breaking. The only tranny that could handle any amount of boost was the jap spec sti tranny.
