celi ecu swapped! but fan always on =/

i swapped in a celica GT ecu (2001) into my corolla (same yr) and it works, straight out (thanks james/vamp). FYI the car had a tran swap. i love the new power, it's a huge difference for a small price. anyway, to the question.

w/ the new ECU the fan is constantly on (when you turn on acc). any suggestions on who is able to fix it, or if it's possible to fix it myself? oh and any ideas how to secure the ECU down so it doesn't shake while driving? thanks.

read the info above, you need to have swapped your automatic corolla (4spd) to a 5spd manual first.

the gt ecu will work if your car was originally 4spd automatic, but then swapped to 5spd. the reason is that the celi A/T ecu (GT) and the corolla 4spd A/T ecu have the same pinouts. to be safe, use a 2001 GT ecu. the 5spd ecu is different from the 4spd auto; the plugs are different. so requirements are:

    - 5spd conversion from 4spd A/T (01-02, maybe 00 also?)
    - 01-02 celi GT A/T ecu

the differences are VERY noticeable. the power increase can be felt from low to high end, but it becomes pleasantly obvious after 4500rpm. problems w/ this are stated above...the fan is always on, and the celi ecu itself is larger than my stock 4spd A/T one.

your car must NOT be 5spd from the factory, to clarify. it MUST be auto, but then converted to manual. the celi GT ecu works only w/ the A/T wiring (4 plugs). however, when put in an automatic corolla, it fits right in...except the reverse gear doesn't work. a 4spd auto corolla swapped to 5spd still RETAINS its stock ECU; in other words, the 5spd manual trans works w/ the 4spd auto ecu and engine wiring/harness. when you swap to 5spd, you no longer have the reverse gear problem with the celica ecu because the ecu cannot control the transmission.

the ecu cost me $100 + shipping. www.car-parts.com has many of them.

what hes saying is you need a auto trans harness stock to be able to fit it to a celi ECU. and then not use the O/D or Reverse wires. You can splice in a 4-plug ecu harness so that you can plug in a celi, and maybe its worth the time, but just geting an eManage in is a pain in the ass, and thats just 6 wires. Theres 41 pinouts total if I remember right.

the celi goes right back in perfectly, except its actual size is a bit larger. thank you pantaloon for simplifying.

Woow, sounds cool. About how much will it cost to convert from auto to manual for a 01?

I have a 2001 5spd manual corolla. Can I buy a celi ECU that will swap right in? If so where and how much :) If this is written above and I missed it then I'm sorry but the ADHD rules me.

the cost depends. if you have the transmission parts, the labor should be around 500-600. parts prices can range, maybe another 600 or more (the one i got was in guaranteed working condition). i also put in fidanza flywheel and ACT clutch, that way the swap is worthwhile. without aftermarket, maybe 1300 around? and w/ aftermarket, about 2k.

no deadnick, unless your car USED to be auto. you need the auto. harness for it to work.

    hmmmm.....

so dare i even ask this in fear of getting flamed. from the looks of it then, (and this is only a guess) i should be able to swap a 2001 Celica gt 5spd ECU and put into my 2001 corolla 5spd with no problems right? i mean, it's the same engine right and 5spd trans? should be the same ecu... yes, no??????

Fan running constantly with A/C on is normal in most cases. btw.. when you set the car to defrost/window level the A/C comes on as well (unless you have a base model).

BTW... could you PM me some of the trans swap details? (how much work or how hard it was to install everything). Is the mileage stored in the ECU or odometer?

Actually, I have a 2003 CE - base model with no options. In the defrost position, the A/C does come on. The light doesn't come on (unless the button is already depressed), but the A/C does. Pretty damned annoying, Toyota!!
