Besides the rush factor you also get a nice little chirp of the tires going into 2nd gear at 8000+ rpms

Yeah, that is true. Do you get a big neck breaking jolt and chrip in your back when you shift from 1st to 2nd at about 8300 rpm??? I have tried many different techniques to release the clutch smoothly without losing too much revs, but it does not seem to make any difference. The only way I can avoid the jolt is by letting the revs drop to below 5500 rpm, but that defeats the whole purpose since you drop out of lift. It is great for racing since you get a big launch into the next gear, but I am worried that it might be hard on the suspension with the car being so new.

OK, I got a host for this, but its probably going to get the bandwidth ate up but heres a quick audio file of my XRS. I had a digital camera and just set it in the passenger seat but this is pretty much what XRS engine/exhaust sounds like stock from the cockpit, but it's louder in real life. I hit lift in 1st and 2nd gear.

I was thinking of going magnaflow but I'm pretty sure now I just want to keep the stock exhaust.

I just got my car a month ago, and Iv tried taking it into lift in 1st. I found that while at 8000 RPM it would not shift into 2nd gear. I was a bit worried after that so I stopped reving it so high for fear of mis-shifting. Maybe I just took it too easy, but Im used to the old torquey 5S-FE that only redlined at 6000 on my 93 Celica. Taking an engine up to over 8000 RPM seems wrong, but I know these engines are designed for it..i just gotta get brave.

Hey mark I think perhaps you hit the rev limiter in first gear. I don't know man I haven't had any trouble shifting no matter how high up the rpms are. I've been bouncing off the rev limiter and shifted. And don't be afraid of lift, it is your friend :). I don't kick it up to lift very often, only if I'm really bored or someones wanting to race. I have plenty of fun just screaming around the highways in 4th gear around 5000rpms.

Sounds pretty sweet, but it sounds beautiful in real life. It is almost symphonic especially over 6000 rpm. It always gives me a big adrenaline rush when I hear lift.

This car engine is built by Toyota with Yamaha. Yamaha has made a reputation around building engines that rev up to 15000 rpm in sports motorbikes. 2ZZ engine is built to perform at 8300 - 8400 rpm so don't worry and go ahead and rev it up as long as you have broken into the engine. If it makes you feel better, despite being such a high revving engine where the rev limiter kicks in at 8500 rpm solid, 2ZZ engines ( now in it's 5th production year) have a reputation of being some of the most reliable engines they have built. Rev it up! and you will be rewarded with a big adrenaline rush. There is nothing like shifting at 8000 + rpms.
