145hp...they have nissans sr20de engine...same as the 1992-2000 sentra se-r or 200sx se-r. excellent for a turbo!

well if you have the coin you could get a j spec sr20det and convert to rwd. thats roughly 250hp with lots of available mods for improvement!

There would be no need to convert it to rwd. U can get the sr20de-T motor from the pulsar GTI-R which is FWD.

Also...the '99 came with 140hp

Yea if lexus brought the RS200 over here with the 3s-ge dual vvt-i motor and slapped a $28,000 fully loaded sticker price on it I would definetely get one.

I wish Toyota had a 1.8-2.4L entry level luxury car in their Lexus line to compete with the Acura RSX and others like the G20.

I never was a big fan of RSX's (maybe its the people who drive them), but its a shock to me that they're less than $20,000. I can see why they're popular.

You could also put in t a sr20vve engine that puts out 160hp... i think ... it has variable valve timing

i hardly consider the RSX and the G20 (read: over priced Sentra) luxury vehicles. for that matter, i don't really consider the IS 300 one. going on with that, i don't consider the G35 a luxury vehicle.

just because they are placed in the luxury line of their parent companies, does not automatically make them luxury.

also, a 4 cylinder is hardly luxurious ^___^;;. a 6 pushing my definition of it. but an 8 cylinder, 4 door car, would most likely be. for example the Q45 and the GS/LS 430.

Its not all about wether its on a company luxury line and how big the engine is. Theres more to a luxury car than wat u consider makes up a luxury car. PPL that actually buy these luxury cars dont race nor to they really NEED/WANT the power your talking about. Your view on wat a luxury car is seriously outa wak if ur sayin the is300 & G35 is arent luxury. Have you ever owned a luxury car?

not anywhere in my statement did i mention "race" or anything of the type. i own an IS 300. and it's hardly luxurious to me. compared to the obvious luxury cars like the LS, Q, S-Class, 7-Series, in which i have driven and rode as a passenger in all of them. the IS is a sad little car.

if luxury cars don't need/want the power, they wouldn't be made with such powerplants. people apparently want a big engine in a nice sedan. manufacturers see that and they give them what they want.

as far as i'm concerned , the IS entered the line as a performance vehicle not so much luxury. as did the G35 for the Infiniti line.
as far as the RSX/Integra goes, when the Acura line came, i felt they needed cars to market under that name. the Integra/RSX would've done equally as well in the Honda line.

    this of course is my own opinion. in which america gives me the right to be a jackass and state such till proven wrong. ^___^;;

toyota used the celica to comepte with the RSX, and now uses the Scion Tc to compete. Difference here is the celica was way overpriced and now the Tc went the way of the lancer ralliart, SE-R spec V, Mazda 3 2.3, Focus ST, hundai tiberon, ect and just shoved a larger motor in the small car instead of using technology to push the power up.

If its such a sad little fucking car, why do you own it and hold it in such disregard?

No Lexus has IS to compete with the big leagues such as BMW 330i, Infiniti G35, Acura TL etc. When it was designed, Lexus officially said that was meant to compete against the BMW 328i (now, 330i has taken it's place). Although, in recent times it fell behind the competition since all the other cars in it's class boast a lot more HP than it. Lexus will have the next generation IS next year with one version having a V8 and over 300 HP.

i own it because i didn't want a VIP car. if i did, i would have bought a GS/LS 430. it's much disregard in comparison to the other cars i named in those list. like i said compared to the LS,Q, S-Class, 7-series, the IS is a sad little car. it's obviously not meant to compete with those specific cars, thus making it a sad comparison.

now if i compared it to the BMW 330i, it's not sad. i prefer the IS over the 3-series. my personal taste i'm not too fond of bmw's in general. so i would never own nor want one. i'm sure bmw's are fun cars for certain people, but when i drove one, i had none.

You are contradicting yourself. You are comparing the IS to LS and 7 series and saying it is sad little car, but then you go on to say it is a lot nicer than the 330i. Well, what is your point in comparing apples to oranges. It is not meant to compete against the LS or 7 and that is why it has been priced over $30-$40 less than those car. You always get what you pay for. IS although no class leader, is a very sweet car for what it is. Especially, if one wants to mod an IS, it has a Toyota Supra MK4 engine in it and it is easy to get it upto 500-600 HP with a few bolt ons.

Every class has its own low, mid, high, and luxury versions. The IS300 is the luxury version of the compact class of cars. U can't compare a compact car with a full size car like the GS or the LS series cars.

i thought the pulser gti-r was all wheel drive...? you are right with the hp rating, but that engine is now 145hp...they must have upped the power in 2000 or 2001.

Yea u're right. What I meant to say is its not longitudually mounted like the silvia motor's but mounted like a fwd motor so there would be no mounts to custom made and most of the accessories are designed to be put into a FWD car. Also, u can use the tranny from the pulsar.

how am i contradicting myself? obviously when compared to a higher class car, it sucks. when compared to a car in it's class, i like it. plain and simple.

my original point was about VIP cars, in which i feel the IS, G35, RSX, etc. are not. people wanted to argue with me, so i argue back.

damn confusing. u said ur IS300 is sad lil car. but u compare it to larger cars of course IS is out class. IS is meant to compete with smaller bunch. 3series, C-Class, A4, S40, Jag X-Type. G35 and TL of course it is sad lil car because it is SMALL. u should have buy bigger car like 5 Series, A6, E-Class, because those are more sporty and not too VIP like A8, 7 Series and S-Class. Just dont understand u why complain if u can buy it. If u cant buy it then that is diff story.

its an sr16neovve. i know someone who has one in a classic Se-r its around 170 hp stock. First one on the west coast to do it. Built a carbon fiber intake for it, carbon fiber exhaust, and a vve controller. its pretty sick.

There is an SR20-VE (with NEO VVL) motor that was made only in japan for a SUV (don't remember the name). It puts out 187hp.
