    seafoam experience

i went ahead and bought some at local store for 5 bucks.. after the engine was warm, i slowly poured the stuff through the pcv valve and it sucked it up nicely- the engine was hesitating alot and idling was rough which is very normal.. turn engine off, wait 5 minutes, and turn back on, and billows of smoke were pourin out the back! that was nice! havent had a chance to really drive the car though..

NEXT: i went ahead and tried some seafoam on my parent's camry, and man= smoke practically filled the whole neighborhood! it was everywhere! that was the fun part- the bad part? the check engine light came on! so i was like "fudge!" but then i rememberd that since its a foreign matter in engine- thats a normal response (i guess)- i then unhooked the battery to reset the ECU, waited 15mintues and wvalla! its back to normal! but man, i was scared as sh*t!

should i worry about anything down the road w/ the camry?

i called toyota after the incident b/c i was scared that i damaged the car, and mechanic said that he never heard of seafoam in the 30 years that he's worked with cars! lol! anyway....since the camry has about 60k miles on it, its still kinda young to develop TONS of build on in the injectors to notice a drastic difference...and on my rolla, i felt no difference whatsoever...i think thats b/c i use tons of diff cleaners all the time..

The definantly sell it at napa and autozone... It's cheaper at autozone though :) found out the hard way! And it's closer to my house! DOH!

It worked well though, my wife says her car feels almost too powerful now! At 80,000 miles i must add too...

Wow I've never even heard of this before. Sounds fishy but I'm seeing people say that it works. Let us know how it works once you drive it around some more.

it's been about a week since I did it on my car, acceleration has actually improved a tad, plus idle is much much smoother. So it really does work.

Their website claims its been the leader in the engine restoration chemical business for 50 years, yet no one's heard of it until this last week? Weird....

I posted a message either on this forum or 2k3 Corolla forum about a good fuel system cleaner and got the response of Seafoam from someone...this was many moons ago. Whoever responded to my msg said that the Nissan 240SX forums were raving about the stuff....go figure. Maybe we're just a little late to catch onto the buzz.

Just use the brake booster tube method. It's easier to find. Look for a big black cylindrical object on the driver's side firewall. Pull off the medium sized, black hose that's attached to it.

Just did it through the pcv vavle tonight. How much did you guys put in? I filled up the cap 4-5 times and let it suck it up. I didn't have any smoke or anything like that though... Havn't driven it yet but I'll let ya know how it goes.

Oh and yeah its loud as hell when you pull the vacuum line off.

You filled up the cap? That doesn't sound like enough to be of any help. I think I did a little under a half of the entire bottle/canister.

1/3 of bottle, turn off car, let it sit for 5 minutes, then restart- should be a wall of smoke- i dont think you did it right bud..

it says it right on the bottle..

UPDATE: i think i know why check engine light came on- b/c it misfired..as i was pouring in the liquid, it had a misfire which is a normal reaction and the light went one, but i will go off sooner or later automatically.

    Bought some Seafoam

I got the van to start! It runs, with the help of a new battery... took it for a test drive around the neighborhood, and man what a big difference from the corolla. It's weird how you get used to one vehicle. The van never felt so strange before! I haven't driven it in about 4 months. Hopefully this seafoam stuff works and I can get it in better shape to sell..
I'm going to try seafoam today. Yesterday I was trying to get the hose to suck it up, but looks like I'm going to need a separate hose to attach to the vac line or else I'll spill it everywhere. I don't think I would want to do it cap by cap...
Let y'all know how it goes.

You're right I probably didn't put enough in, I was trying to put it in slowly so not to stall the engine or anything. Might try it again later.
