    4cyl. max power question

ok, what is the most amount of torque and horsepower available on a stock 4 cyl. car.
this is a naturally aspirated engine, no turbo, no supercharger, gas engine, no deisel

what model and brand has the most powerful 4 cyl?

honestly, i cant come up with anything that is over 200 horsepower

exercise your brain with this one

oh i don't know, seems like the highest i could find was around 160hp, which would be a camry
i thought maybe pontiacs would have broken it or audis or volkswagen
170 for torque on a deisel volkswagen, but thats deisel and only 100 hp.
i figured most would be around that, but i wanted to know if any 4cyl engines have ever broken the 200 hp barrier without forced induction.

I think you mean naturally aspirated one's?? Honda Accord Euro R develops 220 HP from a 2.0 Liter K20 engine (same RSX Type S motor) and Honda S2000 puts out 240 HP from a 2.2 L (2003 onwards more torque lower 8500 rpm redline) and same power with a 2.0L engine (pre-2003 models less low end torque and a higher 9000 rpm redline), Mazda RX8 rotary powered engine puts out 238 HP from 1.3 Liter engine. All of these cars develop well over 100 HP per liter of displacement and then there are cars like RSX Type S, Celica GT-S, Corolla XRS etc. that put out around 100 HP per liter of displacement. All of these cars are rev monsters and rev up to 8500 - 9000 rpm. Honda is the champ when it comes to rev monster cars primarily because of their sport bike company origins.

toyota formula atlantic 4age was 220hp (first version).... i've heard figures up to 240hp

look at some race cosworth stuff.... i've heard figures upwards in the 270+ range

rx8 figures are incorrect..... the first year buyers were able to either get a full refund on the car (return it) or get a large discount off since the given HP figures were incorrect and way inflated

rx8 also doesnt have any cyl.s so that doesnt really qualify for this, but i think the s2000 wins hp for sure.

Yah s2000 i think wins it, rsx has 210. I drove both while looking for cars. They both lack low end power though. Well at least compared to the wrx.

The lotus engine is the VVTL-I engine from the celica, just upgraded to 190hp. The acura rsx has 210hp and like 150tq. Nissans 2.5L altima and spec-v push 180hp and 180tq about. Nissans 240sx 91-98 has 155hp and 160tq. Hondas Prelude (newer year or higher model of earlier years) have 195hp and like 140tq. The acura integra type-r has 190 or 195hp (Might be same motor as prelude) The GS-R model has about 170hp. Toyota has celica GT-S, Matrix and Corolla XRS that have 170-180hp depending on car/year.

I see faisal05RollaXRS has posted simular information also, i just realized this while posting this.

EDIT: Forgot one of the strongest 4-cyc engines toyota has. The 3SGE (non-turbo) can produce 200hp vvti. However the average range for your 3SGE is 140-180hp.

H22 is the Prelude motor so it puts out 200 HP. The K20 engine puts out more power per liter of displacement i.e 200 HP from 2.0 L and 220 HP from 2.0L in the Accord Euro R. I believe Honda S2000 puts out the most power per liter of displacement in sporty cars. 240 HP from just 2.0L in the pre-2003 S2000 models and 240 HP from 2.2L motor in the post-2003 models. Motorcycles is altogether a different story where they put out (just like reexplagi said) whopping 180 HP from just 900 cc and rev up to 16000 rpm.

The Elise has a 2ZZ retuned by Lotus. You XRS guys can have a lot of fun with idiots who buy the car without knowing what's powering them...and some of us with a 1ZZ can beat an Elise if they make comments like "I shift at 6000 RPMs because the engine acts very strange above that." :p

Cosworth makes a lot of good stuff, but they deal alot with aftermarket/race applications and I guess that wouldn't be considered stock.

Funny thing you mentioned that. I recently read some incredibly hilarious posts at a Lotus Elise site (thanks to KCRollaXRS for showing) where someone was really in shock and literally said

"I don't know guys yesterday accidently I took my car above 6200 rpm and my car had a terrible jerk forward and I swear to God it sounded almost like a second motor starts up at 6200 rpm that sounds completely different like a sports bike. What's up with that?"

All the other people who responded were as surprised as this guy was...LOL. ;)

Me and Nate (KCRollaXRS) laughed our a** off at their naive and innocent comments..LOL.

I love S2000. A lot more than the RX8, but not as much as the Elise Exige. Sadly, S2000 is one of the top twenty lemon cars.

sadly, everyone I have ever talked to about them will admit to having no problem with them.

you get them for well under 30k, lightly under 20k used

i dont like s2000's just because they are difficult to mod cuz the engine is so maxed out, your are basicly forced to drop in a turbo to see gains.
