Is it possible for a Corolla to beat a Mazda Protege?

I just returned from Memphis. On Saterday, I was sitting at the entrance of an Exxon on Germantown road waiting for a challange to drive past for me to race and to my luck a black Mazda Protege pulls into the exxon. I turn around and pull up next to him and ask if he has anything under the hood. He says no, its all stock. Well I ask if he wants to race and he says yea, lets start at a roll, 20mph. I agreed and we pulled back out on to German town and rolled about 100 yds before we started. I beat him off the start and began to pull away. I belive he shifted into third, when I was still in second, and he came up beside me. We were neck-and-neck for a little bit. I shifted into fourth and to my amazment I took off past him leaving him to chew on my exhaust. I beat by almost a quater of a mile. I am still in shock. I dont know if I had more power, better skill with my car, or it was just pure phenomina, I dont know but I won and that's all that counts.

very possible my 01 beats a 02 mp5 off the line and on a roll. Take it to real driving (any turns) and he'll leave me for dust, though.

i'm not gonna be the one to call BS 'cause this story could very well be true, but a quarter of a mile is a long distance to beat someone, especially when he was neck and neck with you right before you shifted into 4th...i think that part may be an exaggeration...

What year rolla were you driving? I saw a white 03+ with rims i thought driving down germantown parkway on like saturday.Was that you?

is it a mazda speed protege?

its very possible, alot of proteges out there are the 1.6 litre with 105hp... (or 106, can't remember)... and event he 2.0 liters have 130hp (140hp in the mp3 protege)... and hte mazdaspeed protege with the turbo and 170hp... but you would of know it was one oft hose right away, they stand out alot more than a normal protege... good job though... i love the handling of protge's though, buddy of mine has a 2000 with the 1.6 liter engine, ia lways leave him on straights, but on turns, he catches right back up, they just stick to the road so nice...

put it this way theres no way i hell it was a MSP and if it was then the dude couldnt drive .. ive driven one .. and there quick ... and from a roll that would be a perfect oportunity for him to walk you since boost is almost instant in 2nd gear ..

I was drivin a black 98. I couldn't tell any of you if it was an msp or not. He had it debadged except for the Mazda and Protege logos.
