Since im goin to get an amp for my 4 speakers, ive been lookin into for a car alarm, i reached a point to where i dont want anything to get stolen or basicly make it hard. I know about the key chip thing. But i need to look for somethin different. I saw a system from sounddomain.com(Audiovox) it has a starter killer and some other things that can make it hard to steal or take stuff from ones car.

For any suggestions what should i look into for a car alarm???

How easy or hard is it to install?

Should it be professionally installed?

And is the LCD or View finder thing for the key chain good???(shows a car and has all these signs on it that says whats goin on with the car).

I just recently got the CompuStar 2WSSR installed on my ride and so far i'm happy. I"ve read up on this alarm and everyone liked it and recommended it. The only thing that I can say that is a downfall is the price. It can run anywhere from 450.00 to 900.00. but you get the starter, LCD Pager, a 1.25 range, 2 AUX outputs (can be programmed to do whatever u want), starter kill, sensor in the trunk and one in the hood. saftey shutoff if you open the hood while the car is on..etc. The pager is in color and it lights up and vibrates when someone messes with the car. It also has a feature that will allow you to check to see if the car is armed just by pressing a button on the pager and looking at it. if something is wrong, it will let you know (ie: door is open, trunk is open, car is on, etc). I also did a search on teh Viper 790vx or suttin like that, and the features that come standard with the CompuStar is an xtra on the Viper. Also alot of people said they wouldn't recommend it but alot said they would.

It has to be professionally installed by an authorized dealer. you can buy them off ebay but if something is wrong with that unit, CompuStar will NOT cover it. Buying it from anyone other then an authorized dealer will void the warrenty. to find one, go to www.compustar.org. o wait..ur in VA..forgot, the only dealers in this area are Car Trendz on Rt. 1 (who did mine) and some spot in DC. Car Trendz hooked me up and had my car ready in 3-4 hours. I paid 550.00 for the 2WSSR and no remote start. you only get one pager for this system. they also have the one model under the 2WSSR that only goes .25 of a mile and is 450.00. however it comes with an xtra remote. the 2WSSR doesn't.

They did a clean ass job on my ride and i'm not disappointed. whatever you do, do not go to Underground Audio on Backlick Rd. They wanted 610.00 for the Viper auto start alarm and to put a sensor in the hood and trunk, it cost an xtra $100.00+.

i forgot to mention, the reviews i read also say that this alarm is best for manual cars when it comes to an autostart.

Cool thanks for the info, ill look into it. ya the price is kinda hi but hey id rather pay that much to help protect my car atleast, wont shop up to the parking lot with no car right, heh. well thanks again man ill definetly look into it.

It all depends on how much you want to spend. I have said this before and I'll say it again, what you pay the most is for a clean installation, and the price of the actual alarm brain is the least amount of money in your purchase. CompuSTAR does make one of the best systems, but the others are not bad either.

Clifford and Viper are still good alarms, and if installed correctly they will serve you well for the life of the car. Some of the alarms are also preferred by some installers because of the ease of installation. Some are a pain to install because of the poor paperwork included with it, but most are designed the same way.

Anyway, anything by DEI should be golden as well. They make Viper, Python and a couple of other ones. But honestly when it comes to alarms and basic functions (shock sensor, power locks activation, door zone protection) then a lot of the alarms out there do the same job. It is only when you start getting into remote start, and other custom functions where some of the most expensive models pay off.

So IMHO it depends how much you want to spend, but in the end if someone wants to steal your car, or the crap in it they will find a way to do it. Keep in mind that most instrumental thefts happen within 15-20 seconds, and car thefts within a minute, if it can't be taken in that amount of time then it is not worth it. What sucks is the damage they leave behind, but an alarm may be enough deterrent to keep the thief away.

X is pretty much right. an alarm will help but remember that no one will know what you have unless u show it off or make it known that you have. so you should also take a few xtra steps in keeping things on the DL.
