who has an upgraded torque converter?

Hey whats up guys. I was just wondering if there were any of you out there with either an aftermarket torque converter or a modified stock converter. This is a mod im looking to do, but it seems as though there is limited info out there for our applications. Oh, and my local tran shops seem to be indecisive on what actions i should take. I just need to know whether its good enough to rework my converter i have and increase the stall rate on it. My other question is, by how much?

yea ive been there before. they're a bit pricey, so I was just going to get my stock converter re-worked. I just wanted to know how much of a higher stall i should go with.

If you can get it uninstalled, worked on, and re-install for under $700... Then possibly... but if you end up paying more than that... I say save your cash and apply it towards a turbo.

i think i got a pretty good deal then, one shop is charging me 250 for thr upgrade and another shop is charging me 350 for the whole uninstall and install. THey like know each other or something. so it will run me 600 and i have the option to go with what ever stall my converter can handel.

Your launch will be much better, which helps make up for having an automatic transmission... By having your stall rate 500rpms higher, you'll get to your powerband much faster.. As far as you 1/4 mile time goes... I doubt you'll notice much of a difference, but there will be some.

so if i broke it down, the upgraded torque converter will increase my 60 foot and 0-60mph times, but my 1/4mile time wont change as much? i would think that if i could get to 60feet quicker, then it would take me less time overall to run a 1/4 mile? sorry bear with me, not understanding the physics behind all this!

according to MSN....peak torque is @ 4400 RPM. so i would go with a 3200 stall....i dont think this should be too lose.
also for every tenth u knock off your 60ft....u knock off 2 tenths off your 1/4.

3200's pretty high... If he ever went forced induction, he'd be burning out like crazy ... I brake torqued with the turbo at 3200 rpms and i did a mean old burn out.
