ok, i did compress the piston with a c-clamp, that could have and probably did make the resivour overflow. i broke in the pads about similar to your instructions. it's just that it seems like the hydraulic system requires alot more effort than it did before. i'm going to bleed the lines some time this week, i need a buddy to help me with that. my brakes do work, but the fronts don't lock up like they used to (i don't have ABS). the rears lock up, but only under full force of the pedal. i had to use my brakes hardcore tonight, a deer ran out in front of me, he was so close to hitting me, good thing a paid attention. thanks for the input

ok, i did my front pads and rotors...i followed a haynes manual and everything is good. however, when i press the pedal, it goes half way to the floor now to stop the car. it goes down farther than it did before i replaced the brakes. i didn't disconnect any lines or anything, but i'm thinking i need to bleed the system. when the engine is off, the system pumps up fine and the pedal only travels a couple of inches, just like it should. but when i turn on the car with my foot on the brake, the pedal goes half way to the floor. on my first test run after replacing the brakes, i found the fluid was overflowed, so i took out the excess and now it's at the max line. suggestions?

yeah, when u finish putting everything together, pump the brakes until they're hard again, and then check your fluid level.

They will feel strange at first dont take them out too quick, And take it easy for a while also.

If you have topped off the fluid it will push out the top when you push in the calipers.

If you did not open the system it should not need bled.

    Just my opinion, CW

You'll need to break-in the brake pads and rotors.

This is how I break-in new brakes
-Go down the road about 50 mph.
-Apply the brakes slowly with medium force for 4 seconds and let off. (don't stop the car)
-Re-apply the brakes in the same manner about 10 times. Every other time increase the braking force slightly. (not stopping the car).

That usually does it. You'll of course run into traffic and lights and stuff, but give it a shot anyhow.

Also, give the pedal a few quick pumps before taking off for the first time of the day.

I had the same problem as Xnevergiveinx. I bled the brake system and the problem went away. Also, I've never found two sets of pads or rotors that feel exactly the same.
