    when driving around motorcyclists...

pleasepleasePLEASE drive carefully, and pay attention to where they are riding. one of my coworkers, Rodney, almost lost his wife on Friday night. they were coming back south from York(some bike event up there, possibly at the HD store? not sure on that one..) and his wife got to an intersection(she was the first of the group), where they had the right of way. someone from the cross street ran through the stop sign and hit her on her bike, totalling the bike and putting her in shock trauma. she's still there, and Rodney's not sure when she's going to be out. her leg was torn to shreds...they were able to save it, but with extensive surgery. she's been on drugs since, and he's about as white as a ghost still.

i know those of you who ride would appreciate this...but for those who don't...PLEASE share the road. i don't like hearing about stuff like this when its people i know.

i think that anyone who EVER hits a motorcycle, no matter the reason or excuse, should have their licenses revoked for LIFE.

had a good friend who's dad had a car pull out in front of him.. snapped his leg just below the knee so his foot was pointing at his head... he's lying in the ditch in agony, and the stupid bitch comes running up, "don't go anywhere, i'm gonna call the ambulance!!!"

    her excuse?

    " didn't see him"

every driver should go through a week training with shock therapy, required to go thru interactive training involving motorcycle spotting.. the shocks come when the students "don't see them"

i grew up on motorcycles (my first ride being when i was a few weeks old) and have seen some crazy shit. my dad was almost killed by a deer, has been hit, and has actually hit a pedestrian (in Bangladesh, so it doesn't count lol) .. i have only had minor spills, but i see the way people react to motorcycles on the road.. it's sick that old bluehairs can take the life of even the safest, most cautious driver, just by "not seeing" him or her..

ok, nuff outta me.. now, where's my damn cookie?

I know what you 2 mean. I own a katana 750 and I have been it 3 crashes but one was my falt. 1 lady came in on me and hit me in a ditch and one ran a red light and I just clipped him ...................I hate to be this way but if anybody comes on me I will kick their door.....I have done it once already but the bad thing is she tryed to get the PD to give me a ticket for doing it..........he said that he can't give me one becouse it was an evasive action to keep from being killed. The cop said to the lady you would have killed him on his bike.....man she stared crying and broke down and keeped saying I am sorry im so sorry ok thats enought im out of here.later

I can understand how drivers should use caution. but same goes for bike riders. One time I was driving, I was gonna switch lanes and i looked around..and no one was there. I start to switch lanes and out of no where this bike comes flying by me at top speeds! And he wasn't in my blind spot either cause my passenger said there was no one there. if I would of switched any faster, i would of hit him/her. so in reality BOTH car drivers and bike riders need to be careful.

yeah dacubanskillz has a point. when i'm riding and when i'm driving you see both points of view. i make damn sure not ride in peoples blindspots, because when i'm driving i notice no one really checks their blind spots. i also notice the guys how ride like bats out of hell who dont give a damn about whatever is going on, and i really wish they'd reconsider what they do and how they do it, especially in heavy traffic. :(

bikers should be double careful, knowing that they are not seen as well and not as protected.

did she look twice before entering the intersection? because ive stopped short of an accident in what seems like a common occurence..... still doesnt justify the alleged unsafe actions of the driver

everyone should be tested much more thorough when it comes to operating an automobile

she's more responsible on her bike than my dad is while driving...and my dad's probably one of the best drivers i know. did she look twice? i can't say, i wasn't there, and i wasn't about to poll my coworker about it. he was frazzled enough. i'd IMAGINE she did, because i know when i have ridden with her on rare occasion, she's so friggin careful that she makes the best driver in the world look like an idiot kid.

But crotch rocket riders are given a bad rep based on a few.....the same as import drivers getting a bad rep because of assholes that street race.

I dont see how a person in a car that hits a bike should be punished more than if they hit another car.
You just have to be extra careful when riding a bike....look left and right twice as much before proceeding through that stop sign...never assume that a car doesnt see you, etc.

ok, i just got more information about the accident.

it happened where the person who had a stop sign came out of a blind entrance...hence the stop sign for him, and lack thereof for the main road. it was IN Maryland, right over the PA/MD line. the bikers were all going 5 under the speed limit, but the limit is still 45MPH. the asshole who ran the stop slowed down for it, but still ran through it fairly quickly...according to police, the skidmarks from the truck showed he was going about 55ish himself(and the speed limit there is 35). she swerved to miss, but he plowed right into AND over her. her face is horribly bruised, and she's suing for severe emotional distress, on top of medical bills.

the real kicker is he ran from the scene...which is a bad idea when the bikes easily caught up to him and cut him off the road, thereby making him an easy pickup for the police when they finally got there.

i honestly hope people learn from this asshole's mistakes...innocent, responsible riders don't deserve to be hit like this.

with the way some people ride their bikes around here they deserve to get hit. for some reason its usually the ones wearing the least amount of protection that drive that shittiest. if they arent a foot away from your bumper weaving between cars or passing on double yellow lines. then you cant forget those stupid harleys with exhausts so loud i have to roll up my window as they pass or else i cant hear my friend talking.

1/3 to 1/2 of people I see on bikes are total jack-offs...riding way too fast and weaving through traffic. one time I saw a dumbass do a superman in the freeway at like 80 weaving through a bunch of cars. Having said that I try to be as careful as I can when I see bikes around me....I know I can kill them easily so I just keep my distance.

Well i persoanally think that can go both ways. Yes, drivers should be more aware of Motorcycles. My dad would always tell me that owning a Motorcycle is a risk. He told me if I ever get one while I am living in his house i am kicked out. You basically have to have a life insurance policy on yourself if you own one. Lets just face reality, they aren't the safest things on the road. But this can go both ways. Owning a motorcycle imo is all about responisblilty. Most people can handle it. But i have seen in many case where a crotch rocket zipping in and out of traffic has scared the shit out of me. when some one deciedes to speed like that you aren't only jeporadizing your life. But everyone else.

Sorry to hear about your freind. I hope everything works out.

that seems to be the difference between the majority of harley owners versus crotch rocket riders. the harley folks are more sedate on the road...because they intentionally bought a cruiser. the crotch rocket folks buy their bikes for the speed factor.

i'm not saying the Harleys can't compete in speed...but they're just not meant to be run at the highest speed possible...nor are they meant for racing.

as a side note...the group i've been talking about are ALL harley riders.

to all those with kind thoughts, we appreciate it.
