the altezza taillights are not sealed like the headlights, so putting in an oven is not a very good idea. imo, I will just buy a set of black altezza instead. You know, if you f-up the taillights, that thingworth nothing, but if you buy a set of black altezza and sell the one you have right now, it still worth something.

    Question on taillights

In an attempt to disassemble my altezza's to paint them black.

I have done 1 small piece using the heat gun method with a sharp knife.

I ran into lots of problems when 1 part seemed to have a thicker piece of plastic, I warped some of the plastic cover and it was much harder to get it apart. Took me about 1 hour to get it apart and I really messed up the light.

Well I really just messed up the plastic cover, anyone know if it would be possible to find a replacement part? Like on ebay?

It's the little part that is on the trunk, not the huge light.

Also anyone know about putting them in an oven? I was thinking about it, but they say that it will melt the plastic also.

Anyone know a good way to take the lights apart?

I just did the headllights on my friends RSX and painted them black. We put them in the oven for 10 minutes on 200. It worked just fine. Just make sure you seal them well and that you remove any fingerprints of 3 year old nephews that lurk around while you are trying to work in the heated garge and are tired of messing with it because there is some good football games on that you want to watch.

...not sure it's a good idea to put altezzas in the oven though...they seem to be all "cheap" plastic (or at least mine are)...i was thinking about doing the same thing so hopefully someone knows how to do this. oh, and i doubt you'd be able to find a replacement part from ebay...your best bet is to try to find somebody on here that is trying to get rid of theirs...good luck!

Yeah, I put my stock lights back on and I actually like the change of the altezza's.

Even though I think my altezza's would look insane if I painted the chrome in it black. Oh god would that look sweet.

I wanted to buy some black JDM taillights, but aside from them being 220 bucks they are hard to find.

So I thought I would paint them black. I am probably going to do the oven since I used a dremel to get another light apart, which was a lot easier but also got be scared a few times.

That sucks that I can't get a replacement part :( Ugh.

I just need the plastic cover since I warped it ;(

Well I already messed it up, but it is on a small part of the light.

I was wondering the taillights are sealed with a very annoying sealant.

I will still paint them black, and hopefully I can find some messed up ones in a junkyard or soemthing. I just need the little light on the trunk.

If I was going to do anything it would be to smoke them.

I still want the look of black taillights. Never seen the black altezza's.

Yup I bought chrome when I should of really bought carbon fiber. I don't like the silicone sealant they put on it.

I just need to find a single light on e-bay. I used a dremel after the heat gun basically destroyed one light. The dremel is a lot better method.
