IMO, best alarm out there is Autopage RS-850LCD and it has many features. Great alarm for security.

The best alarms are the ones you guys just said about the auto pager thing that shows ur car and goes off and tells u what is going on with ur car like, car was bumped, door was open, etc. But if u dont want someone to take your car the best one i think is a Keychip. or basicly these ones where u press a button on your keys like unarm, and gives you 30 seconds to get in and turn the car on. Basicly its a kill switch, the car will not turn on with out it. And there is another which you basicly plug in this chip under the steering wheel, same thing as the other thing i explained but you dont have 30 seconds to turn ur car on. I think some fords have this, I know my Tarus had it. But the car wont turn on without it, even if it was hot wired, cause the ignition was unplugged until it was put in. But i think those alarms are very exspensive, but damn idc how much it costs, 600$ compared to a 17000+ car. Im lookin into one only because recently 3 corollas where stolen from a commuiter lot and where not found yet(its been 2 months). but anyways ya those are good ones. Brand name wise idk which one is the best, try (Dynamco, Mobilistics) I think there pretty good but u need to call for a price estimate. Hope this all helps.

go for dei 2 way pagers. there all good. i have yet to buy one but theyll be expensive. if your great with installing things you can buy one on ebay for around 150 and do it yourself. if u take it to a nearby shop itll run 600$ and up.

I have the DEI Viper two-way pager system. Decent alarm. Anything DEI I'd highly recommend. The model alarm you get isn't as important as the installer and the add-ons you put in. I highly recommend a battery and extra siren (I have one inside the car to fuck up their head). Pain sirens are a cheap add-on. Hood locks help so they can't get to your battery.
Honestly my suggestions is lock down your hood, get a spare battery/siren and a passive arming alarm you're comfortable using.

I say if your going for a car alarm, go 2 way LCD. If your going to spend the money, get one unit that does security and remote start. Think about how cold or hot it might get, depending on where you live. You can press a button and have your AC or heat going while you get ready to leave.
Shock sensors are important, if you want a good security coverage. You'll have higher sensitivity to shock in more defined areas of your car. You could also look into an interior perimeter microwave sensor. Just a fancy motion detector for the inside of the car... I think you could find something decent for around $200 to $350. You could spend much more, but I would say don't go below that or the products get a bit crappy. If you can install yourself you'll save alot of cash. Expect to pay about $600+ for professional. You don't have to spend an ungodly amount of money to protect your car from the majority of car theives..

alright, thanx for the input, guys so for a majority u guys think i should get a alarm like the viper, but i was wondering if anyone out there knows how much it woudl cost with these following add-ons, and this is including installation: second horn, and kill switch if its tampered with anything other than my key, fuel kill switch, hood lock, and a motion detector. Thanks guys for the help.
Jajae, whats a passive arming system, I was wondering if maybe you could explain that for me, thanks

Another vote for the Viper 2-way.

I have the 690VX system with glass breakage sensor and trunk pop. I have been happy with it. For DEI accessories you can check www.directed.com (their home site). Prices will vary from store to store. Your best bet would probably be to check for those add ons on Ebay.

A passive alarm means that the alarm will arm itself automatically, say after 30 seconds after you turn off you car. This is good, just incase you forget to arm it.

i have the astra 777.. awesome alarm, good features..

honestly guys, an alarm is an alarm.. what matters is the install.. all an alarm does is sense certain things, and react accordingly.

why spend 300 dollars on a 2 way paging alarm when you can spend under 90 dollars for the same 2 way paging alarm?

if you like, you can install other features, such as optional shock sensors, hood pin, extra battery/siren, but in reality, if the alarm is of good quality it DOES NOT have to cost a fortune.

i have a starter kill in place on mine, as well as some other small features, but the most important feature is the LOCATION of the alarm module.. put it where NO ONE can get to it without some SERIOUS looking.. mine's hidden back in the HUGE recesses under the xA dash..

also, don't hook up wires right by the fuse box.. find different places to source your input/outputs.. remember, an electronic circuit has many points at which you can tap into them..

All the DEI (python, viper, I think clifford) alarms are good. Like everyone else said it is the installation that matters the most. But one thing that I swear by is this:

I got it on the rolla and on a honda and they are the best security ever! They are indestructible, the locked can't be picked, and they are bolted with special bolts to your car chassis. It is a very good lock, and all the Subaru STi owners swear by it!

I got it installed for $275 in NYC, but I am sure you can get it for alittle cheaper.

I have a Viper 690xv two way pager system, GPS secuirty system by Guidepoint and the factory chip/kill switch. All worth it.

I just got an CompuStar system installed.
It's 2-way, LCD display, security and starter.... You can buy/install a lot of options with this system (trunk opener, roll-up window/sunroof, etc...).
