AE92 owners got a question for yars

    I am wanting to drop a 1zz from a 03' into my AE92.

I might have to communte to davis if i get this job.

I figured the 1zz has better gas milage then the 4age it current has. Also the extra 20hp/tq and cruise control would be a extra nice feature :D

Also when i made a new topic the box was so small now its big agian...

dude, you can install criuse on yours now..

you do know the 1zz is going to be an expensive swap, yeh?

Whats your current mialage like: I found tho, that my 'G' (Performance) head is actually more efficiant than the old 'F' (Economy) head. I get about 100km more to a tank in the city, and almost 300km more in the country off of one tank... go figure.

I suggest, if you want something more efficient than the smallport, go for a 20v. But then, its your choice, not mine.

wow never knew. I thought it did. It has the normal 1.6L so i figured it was a 4age. Also im confused. You're saying the 4age out does the 1zz but the 1zz is a 1.8L thats .2 more then the 4age.

thats exactly what he is saying, the 1.6 4AGE is rated at 130hp and is a good and reliable engine, I might be putting that engine into my AE101 corolla (that or a 4AGZE, haven't decided yet)...

the 20v is JDM i don't want JDM i like sticking to legal motors.

the 4age in my 91' coupe is 102hp/101tq
    btw its 1zz not Izz

    the 4age is a old motor at least in my car ^^;

    no
the 4age in your 91 coupe (that is, if it's a 4age.... NOT all coupes have 4age's) is rated 130hp

IMHO the 4age still outperforms the 1zzfe easily

this is what a 4age looks like in a 90-91 corolla GT-S..... if your car isn't a gt-s, then you do not have a 4age.

i get around 30mpg including when i'm driving it hard, taking it all the way up in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.... which is more than fast enough to eat gas.....

i took a couple guys for a ride that own 1zz powered corollas... (at different times) and i had both of them grabbing for the oh-shit handle.....

do the 4a-ge, much cheaper swap. especially since a few models over here had it already. Also the engine is older and more popular, so there is more of an aftermarket to it.

alright. Well i was looking at the 4age gas milage and its 25mpg /29 mpg. This is from the 91' GT-S. I know the 1zz is 29 mpg / 38 mpg.

But if i do any kind of mods to it i would think my gas milage would be horrible. That's another reason i was looking at the 1zz. I figured since the 1zz would be in a lighter car, 250lbs lighter(03+), it would get better gas milage then the 2003 due to less weight it has to carry.

no... nobody does it because were you to go from a 4age to a 1zz-fe you're taking a step backwards in performance

well im looking at avalabilty and price for what it is. The 1zz is the better choice. Better gas milage, engines galore, and its not a busted old motor that everyone wants. I think i started this thread not to get opinons but to see if anyone else has done this before

i understood that the first time. No need to be poking around. I don't care how you drive. im looking for motor info. The motor info shows that the 1zz gets better gas milage. Depending on the motor price is what i am looking at now.

"AE92 owners got a question for yars"

well...... there really aren't many other guys on here that know ae92's all that well...

"I figured the 1zz has better gas milage then the 4age it current has"
not enough to make the cost of the engine/tranny/ecu/wiring to the dollar amount spent extra in gas to make it worth while, not including costs to do the labor and customization to make it work

"Also the extra 20hp/tq and cruise control would be a extra nice feature"
seems that it peeked your interest to have excessive performance

4age's are identical in japan, except they don't use an emissions setup..... if you find a cheap JDM smallport 4age, just strip the manifolds and use the ones on your car currently and it's 100% legal

i was being a dick last night just wanted to say sorry about that. I hope my crappy mood doesn't kick in today. For the cost im sure the 4age will be cheaper in the end. I am sure you would agree. So, the GT-S motor has 130hp and its a 4age correct? I don't want to go to JDM due to the fact they are illegal.

I was thinking less expensive to due the fact i wouldn't have to switch out the wiring and all that crap.

so say i buy a JDM 20v 4age i could dump aftermarket 4age USDM manifolds on and i would be good? Or use the stock ones from a 4age? But what about the ecu?

no, you can't..... those are not the same, do not use the same ecu/electricals..... use a motor of the same generation that you have.... in your case, a smallport 4age

    no they don't

    the 20V came out in 1992.... if you have a 1992 corolla, then you don't have a gt-s, and you don't have a 4age

I had a 1991 Corolla Coupe SR5 with the 4AFE (102hp/100lbft) which was also the last year they made coupes.

I agree with toyotaspeed90 - that the 4AGE 20v come out in 1992 (replaced the 4AGZE) Silvertops first then Blacktops coming out about 5 years later.

Speaking from experienece with a 1ZZFE plant - it would be much easier to swap in a different motor unless you have the means (money, time, and a machine shop) or contacts to do all the work for you.

Granted - the newer engine was designed more for fuel efficiency and revised packaging, plus keep the power up with the VVT-i (increased volumetric efficiency) - but the costs will outweight the gains you will pick up in the 4AFE/GE to 1ZZFE swap.

As being legal (emission standpoint) - as long as the motor being swapped in is newer - you should be OK - check with local rules. Even JDM engines can be OK - depending on where you live - you can get a waiver, as long as the plant is newer.

    Good Luck.

it will bolt in, but it uses a different ecu (has different pinouts), different AFM, different distributor, different ignitor, different transmission even...... uses a different exhaust manifold... intake and exhaust ports on the head aren't the same..... there really isn't an intake manifold on the 20V (has ITB's and a plenum), injectors are sidefeed as opposed to 16V top feed.... to name a few differences

4agze was in the ae101's as well

I think my concern is price/ aftermarket. Does the 4agze and the 20v have equil aftermarket or is it only the normal 4age?

the 20v does.... if you live in japan

and the 4agze does... as long as you don't have electronics break (that is, if you use an ae92 dli/afm or ae101 dli/map system.... you'll be fine if you run a usdm 4agze out of an aw11)..... the 4agze is somewhat built off of the 4age 16V..... however, it has stock forged/ceramic coated pistons and forged crank.... and i think forged rods, not sure....
