I had a friend who owned a Plymouth Neon Expresso (the 150hp one) and the car is definitely faster stock than the Corolla but at 36K his engine and tranny crapped out on him and he had to have it replaced. When he took it to the dealership, they said that his wasn't the only one they had to replace the engine and tranny on and said it was somewhat common. If you read a Consumer Reports used car buying guide, they always say that the Neon and the Focus have the worst reliability of all the compact cars out there today while the Corolla always gets high marks. That alone would keep me from buying a Neon and steer me towards the Corolla any day. The Neon might be a little faster and easier to mod, but if it is sitting on the side of the road broken down, it really doesn't matter.

    Car trade in

Hey whats up guys. Ive been doing some searching around. Im considering trading my 99 CE auto in for something else. I almost set my mind onto a 2002 dodge neon last night, but something didnt seem right.. Now im considering a 2001 5speed corolla. Both the neon and the corolla im looking at are 5 speeds. Without any bias, which would you think im better off with? considering they are both the same price? and do you all think its worth trading my 99 CE auto for a 01 5speed?

Yeah I don't get ot? Trading a car that is pretty much the same w/ the exception of being manual will leave you kicking your own ass later on. If you are gonna trade in, trade up and for much better. You know your finances better than us, but it seems that a 03 or 04 w/ some real warranty left on it is a more logical choice for the money.

Get the Corolla. You might have an occasional problem, but nothing compared to the Neon.

As far as the trade in goes, I wouldn't do it... theres no real point. Are you just tired up an auto? Regarding Dodge, how are the SRT-4's holding up?

oh come on. my friend bought a sxt neon last year. he thinks it's totally badass...but it's still a neon! every girl drives a neon. i would personally choose a car that is less common and requires more effort to mod, neons have everything that is bolt on for them. also, i totally wouldn't want to be driving a neon 3 years from now, they break down way too often

Corolla all the way. You will feel ripped off with the Neon.

I'd actually be more apt to buy a car that has a lot of mods for it... we all saw how the corolla aftermarket support is... We end up spending more money getting custom stuff done

If you want to trade your Corolla with the intentions of modding it, put some more money towards your car and get an 03+ model S instead.

sounds good. I think i will stick with the corolla, but yes my original intentions were to get a 5 speed instead of keeping my automatic. But either way, I have plans to drop a turbo charger in whatever car I decide to get. Do you all know if there would be a significant difference in performance between a T/C 5speed and a T/C auto?

Doh! Manual wins over Auto hands down. I am an auto driver turn manual driver and I can tell you from my own experience. No comparison!

keep the corolla. both cars are about the same. i like the new neons body style, and their aftermarket support, but thats too much work buying and selling just to stay in the same category of car. wait till you can afford what you want, or stick with what you have y'know

of course he can't buy an EVO or STI, thats so funny when people ask a practical question and someone posts... GET AN EVO/STI/etc.

    15-20,000 difference :)
