Engine my new CAI

    it's two parts? so can you switch to SRI when you wanted to?

    thanks guys, the spark plug wires are the blue NGK ones- (basically oem) but yeah, that intake was very difficult to make it fit- so far- performance boost is very good- when slammin the pedal- for about maybe 2 or 3 seconds b/f each shift, there is some noticeble gains- and its not one of those "mental" things either- the only prob.. so far (its been hot outside) the intake is kinda warmish hot when touched- i think i may need to insulate it (radiator is not helping w/ all the heat it gives off)... also- any drawbacks to just lettin the IAT sensor dangle in the compartment?

    hehe- i knew i missed a spot! "ill be darned" but anyway- DOES anyone know of a good website or place where i can get some intake wrap? not too expensive, ive tried summitracing.com, but theyve got this wrap for 50 bucks- kinda pricey..

    i can't see that being a huge advantage over an SRI...... yes, you are pulling in colder air, but the piping is pretty damn close to both the backside of the radiator and the exhaust manifold (header in your case, which gives off even more heat) and the pipes have got to get damn hot there.... not to mention if you upgrade your ignition you might have issues there.....

    other than that, it looks good

    i was thinking about making a ghetto cai by extending my sri with pcv basically the same exact way your its setup. i was going to relocate the coolant and put a straight pcv pipe down towards the ground and probably get a bypass valve. luckily i have a port for the maf sensor already in the sri. is your check engine light on? my friend has a cai with no maf plugged in and his is on.

    yep it is kinda on the warmish side during warm days- but now thats its getting real cold outside- i feel the pipe, and its nice and chill, but its not as cool the method of runnin the intake to the right down behind hte battery into the fender hole..-that spot is ice cold..too bad no one makes an intake like that- you have to make one yourself out of pvc or mandrel bent aluminum..

    Nice job on the intake! I remember you from corolla-racing.com talking about making one. Its nice to see someone make a different route on making a CAI. I never thought of putting it under the battery. Looks very good man, but make sure you get a bypass valve. I recently drove my car through standing water that was higher then my front bumper and I could tell the filter was getting really wet and probly sucking water, but the bypass helped out alot.

    Looking good, just make sure you have a quality filter on the tip of that intake since most of the ebay filters are crap and can damage your engine. One dude recently fried his MAF sensor because he used his ebay filter for one month:

    Of course your car does not have the MAF sensor like his corolla, but it is still good to have a good quality filter.

    I just saw your pics on cardomain and I have to ask, are you sure you did not install it backwards and that is why you had to cut it? I have seen those before, and I belive they go behind the battery and down a hole near the left fender? I see that you cut the tip to make it shorter, bu one side whas short already. Anyway, if you would have used the longer side on the TB could you have not routed it behind the battery and down the fender hole? Just hinking here since I think I have seen it that way before.

    excellent advice laz, yes i have a 3 inch K&N filter sitting in my room that i have to jimmy rig it so it can fit on the 2.5 inch piping...its a crappy ebay filter now- just by looking at it, you can tell the poor craftsmanship.... and a bypass valve would be a good idea as well, but im kinda poor right now.. :(

    aaaah, i ssee what your saying but the engine bay is very tight- no room to do anything, the design is specifically supposed to curve right out of the throttle downwards toward the radiator- there is no way possible to route it to the fender hole (like fastrolla's sig)- unless i did real seriuos cutting making the tip at a certain angle, and i dont think its long enough either...

    the problem isn't the filter getting hot or not enough cold air, but the pipe itself getting hot in a hot environment

    i believe the best setup for a street car is for the filter to be where the stock resonator is drawing cold air in from a duct in front of the bumper. just like mine :)

    nice CAI dave. i seen those before. but didnt buy it.
    i made my own CAI awhile back but im switching back to Short ram intake.
    i dont want any water in there. and its gonna snow like hell this winter too. i dont wanna take my chances.
