    Picked up my 05 XRS

Very happy with my new car, but sad to turn in my baby as well :( that had been by my side for over a year. All in all, my impressions of XRS are the highest. The car is no vibrations or jitters whatsoever. You can rev the hell out of it, but in the cabin it feels extremely smooth and you hear the sweet engine sound more like a European Sport Sedan. I have been refraining from hitting lift till I break in the engine. In the next few months when I break in and get the hang of the clutch and short shifter, I will put some videos up of me doing a 0-60 mph etc. and pictures.

dont baby it to much.... youre going to want to rev the engine to create combustion pressure to properly seal the rings to the block. if you baby it you stand the chance of having a vehicle that doesnt have optimal sealing from the rings and less than top notch performance. when i broke my car in i went a week or so under 3000 then i went a week or so about 4500 and after that or about 500 to 750 miles i took it to almost 7grand on occasion..... after the thousand mile mark i revved the fuck out of it and still do to this day over two years later.... it runs like a champ and is my daily driver. ive raced it solid for over a year and its still kickin harder than ever.

    DONT PUSSY IT

Yeah, that is what the tech guy was saying that you should try to use the full rev range, but not run it consistently at the same speed for a long time. Since I have not driven manuals with gears spaced so closely, I am having troubles picking the right gears and mistake 5th for 3rd and sometimes 6th for 4th etc. Also, I am still working my timing between the clutch and gas pedal so I sometimes smell the clutch burn in the cabin. I asked the Toyota people and they said that a new clutch does smell quite a lot. Is it true?? Do you have any suggestions?? I had two friends an hour ago in my car who wanted to experience the lift and they forced me to punch it so I punched it twice for them. Needless to say they were floored and were raving about the feeling :-D

just do it sparingly for the first 500 or 750 miles (getting into lift) but rev to around 6 grand on occasion before shifting during trips to help the motor break in. and about the clutch, go to an empty lot and sit at idle with the clutch in and get rolling in first without using the throttle at all..... if you can really master that and hills then youre set when it comes to driving. just give it a week or so and youll wonder how you ever made a mistake

yeah, i know what your talkin about man...I love hittin that lift, i had the car 2 weeks now and i have 2000 miles on it. I couldnt wait to get it broken in so i could get on it. I hit lift a couple times under the 1000 mile mark and i have been very impressed so far. It almost like a turbo even....so far the kill list looks like this:

    early 90's 240sx
    98 civic Si
    2000 Jetta TDI
    more to come!

Yeah, that is a good idea. I am planning to go sunday morning to a secluded place and do lots of practicing and make sure that I do not tax the clutch too much. Thanks for the good advice.

Yeah , it is a beautiful car for sure. For the price, if this thing does put a big smile on your face, nothing will. The first 3 gears have insane power in them. Corners as if it were on rails. Despite being 80 pounds heavier than my Corolla S, it actually feels feather weight!
