no hes talking about rolling back the actual miles on a used cluster to reflect how many miles are on his car.

Has anyone rolled back the mileage on their car?

No... I'm not trying to commit fraud. I bought a gauge cluster that includes a tach, but the odometer reading on the new cluster is about 75,000 miles higher than my car's actual mileage. I know other people have switched their gauge cluster, so I'm curious how, or if, you took care of this problem.

OK. I solved my own problem. First I took the clear plastic cover off the cluster. Then I just took a pen and rolled the numbers *upwards*, since that's the only direction they would turn easily. I hope I didn't fuck anything up, but I at least got the odometer to my right mileage.

i dont think it is. plus i thought that wasn't the only way to check to see how many miles were on the car, i thought it was registered somewhere else too. anyways, if thats how many miles you have on it and you needed a new guage to correctly represent the real miles then so be it. i see no harm. if your not planning on selling it then who cares anyways.

When I got a cluster with a tach, I switched out my guage. The ones w/o are a tad bit bigger but I manage to fit it in there.

I wonder how does people with 98-up corolla/prism roll back to the miles they had before swapping clusters with tach and digital miles. I swapped my cluster and put the mileage I had before. I have 152k now.

If you have connections are a car dealership if is very easy. if u try and do it yourself the milage gauge will read "Error".

Exactly. I bought a used gauge cluster (w/tach) that shows 129,000 miles on the odometer. My car has 48,000 miles, so I was just attempting to make the used cluster display the correct mileage for my car. If one were to change the mileage on their car to anything other than the correct mileage, then yes, that would be illegal, but that's not what I'm doing at all.
