The Cobalt should have a 140hp engine, and a 210hp supercharged engine in the Cobalt SS (same price range as Neon SRT4)... the tC has 160hp stock, and 200hp witht he TRD supercharger, so yea, they shuold compete nicely...

The Saturn Redline seems like a monster. It has 200 HP and 200 foot pounds of torque and a measly curb weight of 2800 lbs. It must be friggin fast.

Well, the supercharged engine is cool, but it's still a Chevy. But in all honesty, GM has seemed to be improving their designs, quality lately. Check out the new Corvette, the new Cadilac STS. Hopefully, the cobalt will benefit from it, I actually kinda like the look of the car :) but i'll reserve judgment until I actually test drive one...

isn't it a different tranny though? I remember reviews saying 2nd gear killed the redline (from a saab was it?).

considering there are ecotec cavaliers breaking compact speed records, i doubt one could easily call them crappy.

frankly...between the eco and the previous generation cavvy/low end motors, i'd prefer the eco. it can handle a lot more power than any of the earlier low end motors.

Watch the top gear video of the corvette. They rank on it really badly... It really isn't that great of a car lol... But the cobalt seems promising. Actually looks the best out of any Cavalier based car... Hate to say it but I'd actually buy it.

the ecotec is one little big horn...or however it goes..its got tremendous capability- and i was just driving a stock coupe, the torque just tugs the whole car forward...i just cant imagine how these cobalt babies will perform..the only problem? chevy's interiors and "plastic" approach to things make we want to vomit quite frankly...

well its not out yet.. i really dont think that there will be competiton between the tc and the cobolt.. they are aimed at two tottaly diff genders.. yea guys like the cobolt but its beefing up the cavalier.. while the tc is aimed at young men tuner people

i still wish the corolla had a 2.2 liter dohc engine like the ecotec engine. I guess thats what the tc is really designed for.

You gotta remember though for some reason even the 4 cyl american engines can withstand tremendous amounts of boost... which is wierd...

actually, they're directly focusing their attentions on the tuner crowd. if they hadn't then the Ion Redline wouldn't exist...nor would plans to create the Cobalt SS.

frankly...this is a step in the right direction for the car company as a whole. killing off the cavalier - and it's crappy nature - is something they should have done back when they started with the ridiculous rebates. i saw pictures of the Cobalt from the J-body Bash this year when it was in Ohio...and frankly, it's one of the better interiors i've seen come out of Chevrolet in the past few years.

when we get one in the dealership - which will be in a month or so - i'll make sure to take some decent pictures of it.

for the comment about american engines taking boost better... isnt it possible its because the americans put beefier parts in the engines? which in turns has lower redlines and dont run as smoothly as the japanese engines... it seems to be one or the other, unless the engine was designed for boost from the get go...

im actually looking forward to testing a cobalt when they come out, i hate most chevy cars for the lack of quality and cheap feeling... but if they can get a good quality interior into the cobalt, chevy will have a winner on their hands, because the exterior looks real nice imo...

The Cobalt sure does have more of a European feel (Japs have been moving towards Euro inspired cars for years) to it and a big improvement over the Cavalier.

thats because that one guy whose name i forget is a douche bag. he is just upset that the americans can build a good sportscar for a low price.

is the cobalt gonna be rwd?

    WORD

Also. Technically its the 4 Cyl version of the I-6 found in the trailblazer w/ a turbo.

The computers totally ruin the ShoddySedan hehe, though the handling makes up for it if you have the 16" and bigger wheels.

----I would never buy a new or late model chevrolet EVER. Only the Prizm (duh). American engineering has still got alot of catching up to Europe and Asia. The only way I think they get a leg-up now and then is due to platform and powertrain sharing with over-seas counterparts.
