You sure about that? If I recall, 2002 Corolla's came with 1ZZ-FE's as well as 2002 Celica's.

both 2002 celica gt models and 2002 corollas have the same engine. the difference is in the throttle body, intake and ECU. This is why the celica gt has 10 more hp than the corolla.

Question about the VVTi 1.8 being shared ...

Do the 2002 Celicas have the same engine as the 2002 corollas?
Im just curious because people I have talked to say that the Celica is faster, or more performance geared. Obviously it's a 2 door, but what is the difference between the two cars concerning engine and performance?

    Thanks

I noticed the intake manifold on the Celica looks a bit bigger than that of our Corollas. And I'm not sure, but the exhaust header also seems like it has larger openings as well. And isn't the Celica lighter than the Corolla also? And the transmission is different. I drove my friend's Celica and the first three gears were hella close to each other.

indeed ... if we're going to go "family" then anything that is a *ZZ-FE and *ZZ-GE is within the same family. FE and GE are the different heads and 1ZZ and 2ZZ are difference of some block internals (i do believe the 1zz and 2zz have the same basic block - could be wrong, ive got a lil too much alcohol in me right now to comprehend too much) ...

ANYWAY.... as i was gonna say... the same "family" of ZZ engines can be found in quite a few cars... Matrix, Corolla, Celica, MR2, if i'm not mistaken Pontiac Vibe, and here's one worth goin ' WTF!? ' .... the Lotus Elise runs a 2ZZ-GE ... i think there are a couple more rides out there with the same family of motors in them but thats a few...

    Celica GT = 1ZZ-FE
    Celica GT-S = 2ZZ-GE

    Interesting...

Ok, cool. Well thank you all for the info. I dont know much about these engines. Im having fun learning about them. Celica stock just looks racier. Do chevy/geo prizms have the same engine also? I just ordered a Haynes repair book and the rolla is lumped in there with the prizm. Hah, kinda funny Geo prizm, Toyota Celica witht the same engine...

the differences for that extra 10 hp are in the intake and exhaust manifolds, and the ecu, which has a different fuel map and redline information. also, the 5 speed transmission has better gearing in the celica GT than my corolla at least.
