yes the drum must be on, or you get what happened to you and the piston extends too far.....

what youre doing when you bleed the brakes is pressurizing the system so you can purge the air out..... without the drum on then you press the pedal the corner without the drum on will over extend, the drum is what the pad will push against to create that pressure within the system

    Gentlemen--

I replaced my brake shoes then adjusted to make the drum go in. To bleed the fluid, drum must be on?? I bleed with drum off the other end of the adjuster got misaligned from the shoe and the fluid started leaking from the wheel cylinder. I replaced the wheel cylinder, i.e., repair kit.

*What's the best way of reducing the size of a digital pic? So I can post the brake job here I don't want it too large.

    Waiting for your immediate response!

    Thanx.

Thank you, turbo. I'll be back in my garage after the temp. here in So. Cal. goes down late this afternoon.

**Another thing, now I got new brake shoes I should adjust to make the drums go in, right? Just want to double check on this.

i made that mistake- me and my freind were flushing the brake lines and, not knowing, he pressed the brake pedal while i had the drum off! and bam- that bitch extended straight out and fluid was spurting out of the cylinder! luckily we were able to fit the drum back on- it was tough but now its ok though...

All I can say is, BIG THANX to both of you!
The weird thing is I don't know why I did that mistake not having the drum when I bled the brake :( .

    Again, this forum RULES!
