umm...is this something you've only noticed recently..im having a hard time understand the beginning of your post.. sometimes when you fill up some of your tank-the gas guage sometimes drops and rises drastically depending on a number of things- but it could very well be bad plugs, fuel filter, or in need of just a regular tune up, oil change, or something along those lines..

i noticed it at 20 thoisand miles it strted to eat gas like crazy . i always cahnge tha oil every 3000miles and change tha air filter like evry 5 or sumthing like dat.my car only has like 30 sumthin miles on it i jus changed tha tranny fluid . damn that shit was black. so i should check tha plugs and tha fuel filter?but evrytime i fill up tha tank it goes up to were it is then drops like a milimetr down. after i drive it fuckin drops like to half a tank.

err.. that doesnt sound normal. even if u have bad fuel filter or air filter it shouldn't drop like 2 bars after a short drive =\

Is it still under warranty? If it is then take it there and they should fix it.

check air filter again. check pcv valve. check fuel filter too.
also, make sure your tires are inflated properly
also, check spark plug gap, wires, distibutor and rotor.

my 97 rolla was eating gas like a big rig, it turns out it was an old fuel filter, shot air filter and low tire pressure. and it was also my fault for having a lead foot

check o2 sensor..... if one of them is failing, the ecu goes into a "safe" mode and basically sends more fuel than needed (because if it's failing, then it's always better to run rich than lean) and you can very quickly go through a lot of gas with a bad o2 sensor

I know how you're feeling. I'm still averaging 23 mpg on my 02 auto. I just changed the tranny fluid too. The CEL was on 5 months ago due to a bad o2 sensor, which was replaced. The CEL still comes on once in a while due to an improper EVAP purge valve control.

Will a failing O2 sensor continue to malfunction and not throw a CEL?

If you go to the dealer and get it fixed, please post what they said was wrong with it.
