why would you even want to..... the car isn't worth much......

however, you do need to have the car checked out by the local police authority make sure the car is legal to drive.....

you can NOT do comprehensive of collision on a salvage title. You can only do liability and medical coverage.

I am quite sure they do since you have to have the VIN #...And that will tell you that it is salvaged. Oh and I dunno about every state, but here in Alabama, if you have a loan out for a car, it HAS to be full coverage.

But my car is paid off now though.

Salvaged cars can't have full coverage. My friend was involved in an acceident where the car was totalled. He rebuilt the whole car with his dad. The car was branded with a salvage tag and they only were able to put the bare min. His car was also worth less than half its KBB.

Mistakes happen. I've heard of carfax reports showing a car having a clean title when in reality it's a salvage. No need to get pissy about it.

This will vary from state to state. A vehicle with a salvage title cannot be plated or used on public roads until it is recertified by a specially trained police officer and retitled in most states, not all. Vehicles titled for road use were identified as "REBUILT" on the front of the title. Sometimes vehicles from theft recovery cases or have a certain amount of damage (75%-91% of cash value - different for each state) can be labeled as "salvage".

To add confusion on this - most insurance companies have their own way of dealing with "salvage" cars - since they were the ones that can say if a car is salvage in the first place. Progressive and Farmers Insurance will not do full coverage (at least in Virginia and Ohio, I called, because I was also looking to rebuild a car) - but some other will - they have no problem taking your money.

Just call around - someone will insure your car. Just make sure that the DMV will verify that the car is roadworthy.

    Good Luck.

You can scan away all you want but you are in for a big surprise down the road. I worked for Allstate Insurance and know first hand that Salvage Titles CAN NOT have Collision and Comprehensive insurance. I assure you that if you get into an accident you are going to be SOL because the title of your car is salvaged. Who ever setup your insurance is a complete moron to say the least. When I worked there, we ran into problems like this in the past and the car owner was denied repairs due to a salvage title.

is theft recovery same as salvaged? cause what if the car was stolen and stripped, but salvage can mean frame damage? if it was salvage, can i bring it to dmv, let them inspect it, if they give the ok, can it be turned back to clean title?
