i'd imagine the hood would shatter/break apart instead of tenting like metal hoods do.

glad you're ok...sorry to hear about the accident.

yeah more likely the cf hood would crack instead of bending. So was the accident your fault? or the guys since he swirved in your lane?

So the first week of school, I have an accident.

This sucks. So, I was in the left lane and this guy in a Focus wagon jumps in front of me and tries to make a left turn from the right lane. I didn't have nearly enough room to stop, so I skidded and smacked into the left rear corner of his car.

My car *looks* fucked up, because it looks like I hit a telephone pole or something. The hood is buckled and the bumper/radiator are rammed in pretty bad. I'm hoping those won't be too expensive to fix though. The headlights and corners are all intact and I don't think there's any engine damage, so I'm really blessed i'm ok and there isn't anything else seriously wrong with the car. I have pics of the car, but just need a host.

Anyway, I guess I have a chance to upgrade to a carbon fiber hood now, and maybe those JDM lights, but the accident got me thinking. Would a CF hood have splintered into 2 pieces, or bent in half like the OEM hood? I don't know much about carbon fiber, but I definitely don't want some huge ass object flying through the windshield if I get into another accident.

Anyone know how CF hoods act in an accident?

Sorry to here about the accident !! Glad all are O.K.

Not sure about legal issues (assured clear distance is against you, Even in spite of A$$hole drivers actions)

All I know about hoods are that there are hooks and catches near the firewall/windshield area that are made to hook together and stop the hood from going into the windshield if it is pushed back, that is why they fold up.

When I was in my accident I had a CF hood on and all it did was crack the fiber glass underneath the CF part. The top of the hood was just fine though :) don't think you have to worry about pieces of it going through your wind sheild.

Those are a couple of pics from my camera phone.

I'm still waiting on the repair estimate, so we'll see how much damage my wallet is gonna take. Also, since there were no witnesses that stayed at the scene, there's no way to really tell whose fault the accident is. So most likely, I'm just going to pay out of pocket, as long as the repairs are under $1k.

Thanks for the info on CF hoods, too.

You might have to replace the radiator support and that gets kinda pricey because they have to cut it out and then weld the new one in. You really should take it to a shop. Is it even driveable?

Are you going through insurance? Wouldn't be surprised if it was written off with that damage lol.
