    RWD Possible? (Without tons money)

Hey, im not to familure with AE86 and AE92 corollas. But im more familure with the AE101+ styles. Is it possible to use the drive train of an AE86 GT-S to make an AE101/2 RWD? Or is the AE101/2 body to long for the drive shaft that is from an AE86? I know lotta customizing would need to be done. But im just curious.

It's possible, but I bet with all the bracing necessary to make it handle well, you'd have a 2600 lb corolla. I don't think they made a RWD 4AGZE, but that would hot to put one of those in somehow after you did the RWD conversion.

As far as the AE101 chassis being too long, you could just have a custom driveshaft made if necessary. I'd be worried about fabricating the rear axle mounting points and all of that....

I was just curious, i really want RWD. But i can live without it. This summer my dad and i are gonna do a 7AGE-20. Im gonna go to auctions here at local place and see if a GT-S AE86 shows up, cause get cheap auctions there. And put the 7age-20 in that instead of my car. Was just curious, thats cool. Thanks guys.

hey now didnt the matrix and vibe come in all wheel drive? and isnt the matrix and vibe built on the corolla platform? If thats the case then why couldnt the corolla be at least converted to all wheel drive? And couldnt you just remove the front drive shafts in order to make it just rear wheel drive?

although it looks like this would only be feasible on a 03+ corolla... am i correct or could it be used on other ones?

There is an cheap way!! Just drive backwarc! :D
Actually I think making a FF into MR is cheaper/easier to make it into FR. Just chop the whole front and put it in the truck, LOL.

    j/k

The AWD system is only available with the automatic trans and the 1zzfe..I read somewhere on here that it's probably not strong at all.

You're correct. In fact, in the toyota site, you can clearly see the AWD Matrix is actually 10hp weaker than the FF type. Why? I really don't know the technical details, but my best guess is that the 1ZZ engine's not up to it. I'm probably wrong about the reason, though :p

And I also thought of turning my 9th gen into a FR a while ago. Then putting a lot of things into consideration (costs, tuning, other swaps, maintenance, value, unforseen factors, etc.), with all that work being put to my car, I'd rather buy a true FR (RX-7, anyone?).

It has less HP because they had to re-route the header and exhaust system (making it much more restrictive) so they could run the driveshaft for the rear wheels.

A RWD conversion can be done for a reasonable price BUT you will have no accessories at all (NO AC, NO POWER STEERING). U'll also have to create a bulge in the middle of the cabin to fit the rwd tranny and probably have to move u're seats back because u'll have to extend the firewall further into the cabin of the car.
