I just finished a DIY for removing your door panel, your speaker and applying the Dynamat Extreme speaker kit. A lot of you may already know how to do this, but I'm sure it will help a few people when it comes to removing your door, your speaker, or installing a Dynamat Extreme speaker kit.

Let me know if you guys like the format (i.e. being in a photo gallery website), and if you think I covered everything. There were some things I would have liked to include in the gallery, but I won't be sure to miss them in my other DIYs.

Also, this was my first sound deadening experience with no help. Let me know if I did a good job...

Looks great but why did you put the original speaker back in ??? Get some 3/4" to 1" spacers and upgrade !!! Those door panels are some of the easiest, once you do them once. BTW nice DIY. CW

What would the spacers do?

If you dont use a spacer, The window glass will hit the magnets on the speakers when the window is all the way down. A 1" will work but get a 3/4" if possible. and check the depth of the speaker. Crutchfield.com has all the specs on what will fit. CW

he is using the stock speaker, so i don't think clearance is a problem

Someone suggested a small rag pulled around the crank handle to grab the clip and pull it off.

They are hard to see when in place though.

Yep. Which is why I was wondering why it was needed. I am considering installing 6.5" in the fronts, knowing I will have to make a few modifications... first one being a large spacer.

Has anyone had any success?

The OP ask what the spacer would be for (on aftermarket speakers)

No mods are needed for aftermarket upgrade except to drill out the rivots on the OEM speaker and add spacer, 3/4" spacer fits best on 98-02.

u left out how to take the window crank out, i think most people would have problem with that.

No I didn't. It's on the first page. Here's an excerpt from that page...

"Second, pull the window handle away from the door panel, and you will see a gold colored metal clip that is seated around the handle. Grab a small flat head screwdriver and push downward on the metal clip (make sure the window crank is at the 12 O'clock position)."
