Just dont rely on it. Against laser, detectors are worthless

I want the scrambler kind, they are legal, and you get rebate to pay for your ticket if you get one within 1 year of buying it.

Not saying that i really speed, just more for highway use, cause ill catch myself going faster than what i want or think im going cause i dont have cruise control. Just gives you little more chance of not getting caught or time to slow down to speed they wont pull you over if they can read your speed.

Laser is Instant On....he points the gun at ya, and pushes the button. Hes getting a reading before your detector picks it up. Before he pushed that button, there is no signal transmitted.

I don't even have one but I can spot cops pretty good plus I know where they all stand here in Colorado so I know when to speed or not..... I'm like my own cop radar lol my sister said that she was gonna stick me to the window of her car and just to start makin noise when I saw a cop lol..... and well the reason for this is my family pays NO attention on the road and I mean none 0% lol

from what i've read, and i've read tons of reviews, the V1 is the best one out there - its the only one with a front and rear facing antenna, bogey counter, and tells you direction. I read a few passport 8500 vs V1 reviews, the V1 always came out on top.

where did you see the V1 place 3rd?

I have a BelPro RX65 and it has laser too and front and rear detection. I also like the different modes too especially the threat mode on it.

You might be able to pick up scatter from the laser if its shot at traffic ahead of you. If you pick it up from behind, and you're no where near an Infiniti FX or some other vehicle that uses laser for their cruise control systems, you're screwed.

i have a buddy who got nailed by laser three times, he invested in a laser jammer made by escort.

how funny would it be to have a good laser detector and get all freaked out 'cause you keep getting pinged when you're in front of said FX.. :D ... you get pinged, slow to speed, get pinged, change lanes, pass FX get pinged again... :D

yeah, but you can mute that alert, and the V1 will keep it muted even if it passes you several times, but alerts you when it finds a new bogey at regular volume.

I have a Radio Shack detector that picks up radar and laser. It was only $40 and it works well for radar. I went on a road trip from Atlanta to Miami and it consistently picked up radar signals from about a half mile away. Laser is a different story though. I was doing 90 coming back from a club in Miami and I didn't see a cop stopped on the side of the road. As I passed him it's like his lights came on immediately and he came after me. When he stopped me he told me to get out of the car and took me over on the side of the highway. I was sure I was about to get beat or something, but he was cool. Even though he clocked me at 87, I pulled out the "Yes, sir!" "No sir!" routine and he gave me a verbal warning to slow down.

Anyway, I'm sure he used laser, because my radar detector sat there silent the entire time. I suppose it was a good buy for $40, but you can't ever completely rely on them.

The V1 is like $400 isn't it? Thats a big investment for me. It's not fool proof either, with lasers now. Someone should try painting their car with carbonized flat black paint and glazing their windows with 24k gold. :D See if that helps.

I think I would really want something reliable, but inexpensive as well.

It does pick up laser, quite well might I add. The only problem is that its an "instant-on" device, so if you picked it up, you're probably screwed. Which is where laser jammers come into play. The Passport ZR3 is a popular and effective laser jammer with three emitters that emit UV light, that basically diffuses the laser before hitting your car so they won't get an accurate reading. when you get hit, your V1 will tell you, and you can slow the F down and turn your jammer off (oh, because its not suspicious if you get hit 5 times and they don't get a reading...)

I've got a V1, I love it, and I highly recommend it. But if you're a speed demon, you'd probably also want to invest in a jammer and some police scanners. (yeah, I know someone like that. he drives paranoid as hell at 130 mph+, listening very carefully to his scanners/cb radio while his V1 and ZR3 are going).

Oh, and painting your car with a special glaze or some "laser diffusing" top coat - don't waste your money. Studies have shown that passive laser jammers like this are either A) ineffective or B) IMPROVE the range of Police Lidar. If you want to jam laser you'll have to use an active jammer.

I was the same way, but thinking that way bites you in the ass. It's in your best interest to get a radar detector, especially one that detects every type of laser created since the 1970s.

I would probably get one, but they are illegal here (detectors for sure, and jammers I think). The fine for just having one is much more than a speeding ticket.

I wish it was just about the fines... I have to worry about points on my liscense now. I think I'm in serious danger of getting my liscense revoked because I have so many points.

Radar detectors will not get you points on your record.
