    That is the plug in used for the ECU diagnostic systems. If you ever get one of those check engine lights or something that pops up on your dash display and you take it to a shop to have them check out what is wrong, they plug their diagnostic machine right into that. Toyota's nice way of simplifying diagnostics run on your car.

    what is this?

    There is this piece of white socket located right under the hood latch. When I took to get my car dynoed today, they plugged something into there while doing the run. I was wondering exactly what that is? The car is a 98 Corolla btw..

    It is an ALDL connector, used for diagnostics. You can also I believe program the ECU and OBDII systems through this connection.

    yes it is for diagnositcs and obdII...when u get your car smogged they do the same thing...

    dynoing cost somewhere in between $50-$100 for just pulls and no tuning depending on your location
