    AWD Matrix

I heard a nasty rumor about an '05 AWD Matrix? ...Something about V-Slip AWD or some name similar to that. Can anyone confim this? There is nothing on the Toyota site, but we all know how long it takes new things to get on Manufac's pages...

    Thanks!

The Matrix has versatility, reliablity, a comfortable and stylish interior, and decent mpg for its size. I recommend checking one out if anyone is interested in a new car.

    Hey guys,
Yeah I was wondering if there IS an AWD Matrix, because according to Toyota, there is only 2wd and 4wd, no awd. (Yeap I know the diff) The reason being I wanted to research the possibility of putting a Matrix Xrs engine into my 04 Corolla S. I know I know not that much faster, BUT the AWD drivetrain might fit a matrix tranny, I'm thinkin with a lot of work and $$$ I could have a turbo, awd corolla in the range of 250+. I know, I'm a dreamer, but hey it could happen. :)
No, no problem with the system. I want it in mine. :)

Well it is possible, ofcourse. You need a lot of money but yeah. It would be so sweet too!

You are better off supercharging your Corolla or trading it in for the Corolla XRS ( considering it has a lot more to offer besides the 2ZZ engine) than trying to drop the 2ZZ in a Corolla S. It will not be worth it.

if that's what you want to do, then go for it and take lots of pictures. the celica 2zz engine is alright but there isn't very good aftermarket support and turbo-ing it is very hard. i hate the celica gts manual tranny. first, i don't like how reverse is next to first gear. and second, shifting feels like a pain.

the 1zz or even the tC/camry 2az engine seem to be better engines that might be better for the corolla to work on.

Well it may not actually be worth it considering that I'll be upside down if I trade this one in on an XRS. The reason why I'm exploring the matrix tranny and/or engine, (otherwise I'd get a celica GTS engine) is I am not sure if the new drivetrain will fit the corolla; plus I do not like the look of the Matrix. It just has an AWD drivetrain. :) I would prefer to turbo it instead of supercharging anyway. I do not know a lot about superchargers, but wioth all the work I would be doing, I can kiss the warranty out the window to begin with . :) Oh well. I guess I can dream a little dream...
Thanks guys. Look like I'll have a lot of fabrication to do. lol

Roku, Eh I don't know, driving some jettas before I actually kind of like having reverse up there, although it does take some getting used too. Have you tried gear oil or synchro oil to help ease the shifting? I know my friend did that with his WRX and he says it makes it much smoother.

might as well buy a matrix, and drop in a 2zz, and make it look like a corolla

im sure the awd drivetrain COULD be put in a corolla fairly easily - the corolla and matrix share the same platform - (matrix's official name is Corolla Matrix - it's really just a 5dr corolla). But if the awd system is as weak as has been said, why bother unless you plan on spending even more money to beef it up.

Also, someone said a 2zz swap would be hard into a 03 corolla S?? The XRS has it stock - same body and frame... to me that makes it sound like it would swap in quite easily, with new motor mounts of course. Though with the overall cost of it, you'd really be better off just getting an XRS since it offers more than just the 2zz (4wheel disc brakes, 6spd, stiffer stock suspension, etc... )

The Matrix XR is AWD not FWD. It has the 1zz-fe (Same as the corolla). The XRS is FWD and has the 2ZZ-GE (I.E. Celica). Also, you would NOT be able to have AWD. The XR is AWD and XRS is not, reason being that the AWD system isnt strong enough to handle the extra power of the 2ZZ. So yes you could do the 2ZZ swap with enough money, but not the AWD drivetrain swap.

yeah, it probably needs getting used to, but i am more accustomed to reverse past 5 gear. when i said shifting was a pain, i kinda meant that always being on the same power band with being on the proper gear was annoying. that's just me, though.
