i think you should be fine, drive the car around a while and lsiten for any noises i guess..but since you were going 45, that's no prob i think..

    i remember in my SI
    1 gear - 0-40
    2 gear - 40-60
    3 gear - 60-90
    4 gear - about 90-110
    5 gear - 110-140

it was something like that, second gear was short, and first and fifth was long

I am also worried about burning a clutch since I am not exactly very expert in manual driving at present. I used to drive my parent's 4 speed manual 1986 Corolla when I was in my teens a few years ago and the technique to make clutch meet the gas pedal half way through does not work for today's high revving engine since it revs like crazy if pushed anything beyond a gentle tap while the clutch is disengaged.

    misshifted...am I alright?

well, wasn't paying attention in traffic, tryin to shift from 5th down to 4th. and slipped over to 2nd. Car jumped from 1100rpm to 5900rpm @ 45mph. Redline is 6000, so, is my car still in 1 piece? Hoping I'm saved by my Mobil1 Synth

Make sure you're not getting any weird engine noises. Other than that you should be okay.

well, engine sounds good, has plenty of power at high and low rpm (well, normal anyway) so, I think it's still good! Thanks everybody! Never know what can happen sometimes.

i can usually make it to about 55 without bouncing off the rev limiter so you should be fine.

yeh my 1zz's gear in 2nd is like right with the rpm....at 2 grand its 20 mph and 4500 its 45 mph, so I don't understand how it jumped to 5900 cuz i doubt they changed the ratios in 2002 from 2001

You must be careful when you do that. That is one of the things I am worried about myself since I will have a six manual close ratio gear box soon ( 05 Corolla XRS) since the gears are spaced very close with short throws and when you downshift, there is no rev limiter to watch out for you. Any bad downshift on a freeway can make the needle race up to 9000 RPM. Although, the 8300 rpm redline makes things a little better. Right now I drive a 4 speed auto Corolla S so mis shifting is out of the question.

yeah, i can hit at least 65 in 2nd, 110 in 3rd, top speed in 4th, and 5th is just an overdrive gear. oh, and like 37 i tink in 1st, u should be perfectly fine.

yeah 45 mph in second is a healthy engine speed :D

yeah, but i've got an auto.

i think in the corolla (93 DX, 4spd) 3rd is the gear in which teh car tops out, cuz 4th is just overdrive, and 1st is like after 40, 2nd i think is around 70 or maybe more.
