I just bought it last night and my web cam is currently f*cked, so I'm gonna have to wait a few days before I can get them all up. I just couldn't hold my excitement in much longer... so I had to post :)

Just bought a new car!!! :)

1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX AWD turbo :)

Yea, I know, I got rid of the Corolla... but this was a deal I couldn't pass up. The car is in absolutely immaculate condition, I got a whole lot more for my Corolla than expected and I have never been happier. I bought the car, am paying off all my credit card debt in full, and getting rid of those credit cards while I'm at it. Life is good.

    :D

Nope...There are some (though VERY rare) GSX auto's. I have no idea what Mitsubishi was thinking! I mean, why make an AWD car in automatic?!

i have 2 friends with eclipses, they both have/had problems with them, one replaced a motor, and his trans was a little tricky for the first time today, and another had to replace the entire electrical system

eclipse is a nice looking car... but my friends w/ eagle talon(which is the same car) and my mechanic told me that the car doesn't hav an reliable engine and tranny... and from my aircraft mechanic course taught me that N/A engines are way more reliable than turbo or s/c engines...

The GSX is a very fun car. you should have lots of fun but um, expect the tranny to go first. That's where Mitsubishi's downfall is. Actually that particular model (GSX or GS-T) was built better than any other Eclipse. The GSX is rare and has a very good re-sale value.

BTW, please tell me that it's a 5spd! If not, it wasn't worth it.

No it's not. I went through GEICO and pay about 100/mo. for liability. And plus, one of my best friend's has had nothing but good to say about his 95, 96, and 00 Eclipse's that he has owned. I think it's all in how you care for the car.

I would love to tell you man that Mitsubishis are great in reliability and quality, but sadly that is like placing yourself at arm's length from reality. It just comes as a word of caution so that you can take action in time in the future. Nothing more. Mitsubishi is not at the verge of bankruptcy without a reason nor has Chrysler dumped Mitsubishi without a reason. Mitsubishi cleverly deceived their loyal customers for years by hiding inherent implementation and design faults in the car and refraining from issuing recalls to address the issues. Now they are all over the place trying trash Honda and Toyota on TV and trying to get loyal Honda and Toyota customers for longer warranty and performance blah blah, but Mitsubishi is a failure not without a reason and they are getting what they deserved for betraying innocent and loyal customers. Please do not take it negatively or anyting. I really hope this car works out great for you. I just felt I let you know about some harsh facts. That is all.

Thats wierd that there not all manuals. My friend bought a spyder gst thats an auto, and there are only like 1000 of them on the road. But they all had serious problems engine, suspension, and trans. In the hands of a talented drive they are a blast. The factory clutch is great and u can drive it with out the hint of the car even being a manual.

i almost bought a 96 eclipse auto, but after really test driving we found out the tranny was completely blown, it smelled like burning plastic and smoked whenever you drove it more than 15 mins. the guy who tried to sell it to us tried to convince us nothing was wrong, but when the mechanics saw it they were like "Get your money back FAST!" so i don't trust those any more.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I know what I'm getting myself into when it comes to the possible problems with the car... however, one of my best guy friends had an Eclipse and knows their engines/trannies/etc inside and out. So if anything were to go wrong, I'd go directly to him.. therefore avoiding the high cost of labor.

Even though I know that concerning the reliability of a car and the length the vehicle will last me... Toyota/Lexus and Honda/Acura are at the top of the list.. they are very nice cars and I would never think twice in owning one again.. however, I wanted to try something different. I'm almost 100% sure that I'll end up owning another Corolla somewhere down the line, but I just can't afford a new one right now.

The Eclipse is going to be a daily driver for the next 2-3 months, and then after that I'll probably buy another Corolla (most likely 03+) and use the Eclipse as show/race only. I haven't left the vvti family completely :) Just for the time being...
