Removing 01 Shiftknob, A/C control interior Piece

hey... I need a little help on removing the interior piece ontop on the shiftknob and a/c controls on my 01...

I already removed the top part by simply pulling on it, then I removed the center storage and cup holder, ashtray and ligher, the a/c controls I removed both screws but didnt take it out completely... but i cant seem to find how to remove the whole piece..

I also removed the center armrest/emergency brake interior part and the small ring around the shift knob.

    any help?¿

Just keep looking for screws to take out... you got all the ones on the A/C unit. You may need to take out the large upper piece of dash. I had trouble with mine, but then just got pissed and gave up once I got it, because it took so long.

i took off the one holding the radio and center vents... but do you mean the complete top piece the one holding everything together (top dash and all that?)? Tomorrow i'm planning on taking off the glove box do i need to take it off? Before I continue i just want to make sure... i do need to remove this piece to change the autoshift knobs bulb lighting up the "PRND2L" right? cause if i don't please explain how i can reach that bulb and save me alot of trouble.

this won't really help you, but just a word of caution... don't pull too hard because the air vent knob.. you know the one for choosing defrost/feet/head.... that has some kind of metal thing hooked to it so it can open and close the air flow... I'm guessing that's what is holding the peice in place. I tried taking it out once, but could not figure out how to unhook that metal thing...so don't pull too hard so you won't break it. At least that how it is on my 01 corolla LE.. not sure if it's any different on the CE

I know it's a little vague, but I'm sure you'll see what I'm talking about.

If you just want to change the bulb for your shifter, it's simple. You only have take off one piece. Do you have the armrest and storage console? If so, take out the two bolts in the bottom of the console and the two screws on the seam between that trim piece and the forward trim piece (right at the front of the seats near the shifter). The bulb is mounted at the rear end of the PRND21. Turn the lights on (brightness all the way up). You will see two wires going up into a socket, rip er out. It's a # 74 bulb, I used a LED and it lights up great, no hot spots. Toyota mounted this bulb perfect for us LED enthusiasts.

I don't think that the socket is supposed to come out. I think I broke mine taking it out (I used pliers) but don't worry, it seems to fit back in just fine. I'm pretty anal about not having loose bulbs and such, so if I'm happy, you will be.
