    Crazy stuff here

so summer 06 i will most likely be moving to hawaii with my bride to be (we will be married before we leave). the craziness is that i was born and raised here in vegas and am very much a "home boy" in the fact that i really build a comfort zone and when i leave here i get all home sick really quick. im not questioning the move.... im freakin psyched and excited. but what i really need here is some stories of some of your moves (drastic or not) and how you coped or made the best of something new. or maybe anyone here who is from hawaii or currently lives there could help me out a bit. my fiance (wife) will be an army nurse, if that means anything to anyone trying to help out.

thanks for the time guys and gals

Look at it as an adventure. I was born & raised in Florida and when I got out of the Navy I moved to Detroit, MI (the reason I give is that I didn't have a sinus infection and I wanted one)

It will take you a little while to get adjusted. I had a job interview on Gratiot St. Since I had moved to Detroit, I pronounced it the same way which brought tears of laughter to my bride. (it's pronunced Grashit). Expect to have problems with Hawaiian street names! Good luck and have fun! :)

I think you'll have a blast man. And yes, look at it as an adventure. I was born in Georgia, lived 14yrs in South Carolina and 4 yrs back in Georgia (still within a 30 mile radius all my life). I up and decided to go to Seattle the day after I graduated HighSchool (1997) and lived there for a couple years, moved back to GA for a few months, then lived in Texas for a few months, then back to Seattle. Stayed there until March of 2001 when I moved to Colorado. Been here ever since.

In the beginning when I left for Seattle it was hard at first - kinda scary bein that far from home (3000+ miles) and being on my own. I had some friends there that helped me cope with it, in your case you'll have the new wife which *I* think will make it more fun. It'll be a joint adventure. After a while in Seattle it grew on me - I went home for a little while and it just seemed odd - so as you can tell I moved on a bit and ended up back where I first started. I came to Colorado for a change of scenery but I didn't go home because I was now used to being out away from home.

I'm excited for ya, I love hearing about people challenging things and getting away from "home". You've got my support and if ya ever need - feel free to email me for info on how I dealt with specific things. Congrats again on the engagement btw!
