I have seen some David Blaine tricks that are truly awesome like his card tricks, but this one is very obviously staged and not impressive it all. Everything is a setup. Here is how:

He picks up the empty beer can flips it around while he is saying "see how it is empty". At this point it is empty. Now watch closely as he lowers his arm a bit out of range of the camera and brings the arm back up and the beer can is full. It is all clever video editing from the show editors. That is all.

Hahaha... it wasn't clever video editing. I did the trick myself back in high school when I used to do magic tricks. I have pulled off everything that David Blaine has. Except the crazy standing in ice and buried under what crap.

Just before it gets out of hand. It is not ANY camera work. He does lots of stage work for the "unbelievable" stuff. But no camera work besides the dumb levitation.

To me, it's all about impression with David Blaine. Almost ALL of his card tricks contain ONE CONCEPT in card magic. And JUST ONE. A lot of his specials have dubbed over parts where the "spectator" was asking too many questions. And some of his tricks like flipping and juggling cards were sped up.

I'll tell you guys how he did the can trick a little later, I gotta do something for a while.

Dude, it is so clear that the can was empty when the hand went down below the camera field of vision and when it came back up it was a can full of beer. It all happens instanteneously and has to be observed closely. It is very obvious. I am convinced that this is what happened.

i don't think it's camera editing either, if u look at the replay it gives you a wider shot and his hand doesn't go off camera, and i played full speed and slow speed to compare the movements and expressions to make sure it was the same moment. Looks pretty ligit (and by that i mean some other form of illusion, not camera).

Haha, and you seem so convinced. Well before I explain, I'll just tell you I didn't use any fancy camera editing when I did the trick in front of actual people

*** IF YOU DON'T WANNA KNOW SKIP THE REST OF THE POST - IT ISN'T THAT GREAT TO KNOW HOW TO DO MAGIC TRICKS ANYWAYS.***

The trick is originally called "Healed and Sealed." Most magic stores have the package of information on how to do it, and it isn't a blank video cassette tape and a copy of Adobe Premiere. It starts out with a preparation of a can of any soda or carbonated drink.

The secret to the trick is CO2 and it's physical chemical properties when mixed into a solution. We all learn that when you shake up a soda can and open it, it explodes. Same deal. When gas as a solute is put into a liquid solution, we can cause a reaction of releasing the gas through heat, grinding the solute, or mixing (in this case, shaking).

The preparation of this trick includes puncturing a hole using a thumbtack or another small pin into a soda can and letting it drip out about a sixth to a quarter of the soda within the can. We do this while speeding it up by using a towel or another soft flat material to pressing down on the can and crushing it ever so slightly and just enough so that the can is now full with soda and the air in the can has been released. Magicians will place this in a bush, in a garbage can, or in David Blaine's case, he replaced a can that the guy drank (he's rich, he can do what he wants).

So in the end, what do you have? A unopened soda can that is variably crushed with an unopened top. So you might be wondering about the unopened top being opened. Well... OBVIOUSLY, it is NOT opened, otherwise when the can was expanding, the soda would have spilt all out. So what we do is we get either a paper towel or if you can afford anything better can be folded into a small piece when rubbed with a slightly damp finger, and we use a marker and color it in black.

Now what do we have? A can that appears to be empty, doesn't make none of that jittering liquid noise because we removed most of the air, with what looks like an open top and a small hole in it.

David Blaine used some tape, but what I and other magicians usually do is pick up the can, show it off, show how it's empty with an open top, all the while putting our FINGER over the pinhole (which we place on the top of the can). Blaine put a little bit of tape over the hole so that he could fidget it around and have it on the bottom of the can. As you show it off, you are moving it around and as we learned in chemistry, gas is released from a liquid when heated, grinded, or stirred. The gas releases and the can expands to it's original shape.

We rub the top off and shows the shiny unopened can.

Now, how do we account for the missing soda or liquid in the can? When the other tries to grab it we ask, "Is it full, let me check if it's full." and we open the can, and we pour some out and try our best to make it look like a lot (watch the vid again, it's uneven between the amount of time). And we let the guy have a sip. And the laughs and giggles go on from there.

When I did the trick, the funniest line was "Wow, it IS REAL... but it's a little FLAT." Given, I had to set up a way little while before.

And that's all David Blaine is. He does do quite a few tricks that involve camera work, levitation, through the window, lots of hidden gaps inbetween conversations to enhance his credibility and his agility in tricks. His card tricks are NOTHING! Use only ONE move. You know this move, and you can do EVERYTHING he can.

Jeez, that was long. Oh well, I gave up magic, don't get into it, definitely not worth the time put into it. I can riffle shuffle a deck with one hand, cut with one hand, and pop cards out of nowheres. I regret all of it because of all the interest that people had in the MAGIC. Oh well...

If you still think it's camera work... you're beyond me.

Its not camera editing.....because during the re-play, the can doesnt leave the camera view.

its all slight of hand and set up time before hand....anyone watch mondo magic? Ive figured out most of their tricks. TIVO helps out with that.
