    Anyone put better alternator in?

Hey, im looking at getting the Yellow Top optima battery, and getting a better alternator at the same time. I believe the current one is a 70amp correct? Thats what i find most of them are on auto stores. But i have seen some 80amp ones for like 150, and 70amp ones are like 130. Should i get the 80amp? I have a 1000watt rms amp, and plan to get neons soon. My lights flicker as it is now. Or should i have custom alternator made that does like 120amp or something. If someone can help me id appreciate it.

w/ a 1000 RMS Id say hell yeah, especially to add neon- those ballasts are a serious amp drain. I have 350 RMS total with a Camry sized battery and no dimming- Our stock alternator(I believe) is the same as a Camry's...

Hehe, yeah, that amps power is only turned 1/2 way or like before it, LoL. Is there any place to get them to make a custom one that fits in place of factory that is like 100 or 120amp though?

Yeah, i have a 95. So it is 70amp. I need a good enough alternator to be able to handle my sound system, and underbody neon eventually.

What year Corolla do you have? I have a 2000 Corolla, an 1800 watt stereo system, two Optima Yellow top batteries and two 1 farad caps and my lights almost never dim, and when they do it is barely noticable and only at high volumes with a bass heavy CD. I know the stock alternator for the 93-97 is 70 amps, but the ones for the 98-02 are 90 or more.

US-built '93-'94s came with Delco alternators, in either 70 or 80 amp versions (I believe automatic 1.8s got the 80 amp). The rest came with 70 amp Densos. I've heard some of you other '93-'94 owners talking about replacing alternators 2 or 3 times in 100,000 miles, which usually are the Delcos. My factory 70-amp Denso's bearings started to show signs of pending death at 137,000 miles, so I gave in and replaced it. So go for an 80 amp if you must, but just be warned. Just replacing my alternator all but eliminated my light dimming problems, so that's something to think about.

By the way, even Mk. I Lexus LS400s came with 70-amp alternators, with their Nakamichi stereos, electric mirrors, windows, locks, seats, seat heaters, and so on.

yep, go with a new/rebuilt alternator, and make sure its the same size and type as the original..that way itll fit nicely w/o any problems from an alternator from a differnt car...

Easy. Like two or three bolt holding it in there. Just unscrew them and the alternator slides right out. It's easy to get to, also - right there on top.

Two bolts on top and one underneath. Take them out, swap in the new alternator, and replace the bolts. Voila!

The alternator was the first part I ever took out of my corolla. Took about 10 minutes without a manual on hand. 2 bolts, really easy.
