    Primering car - question.

I'm primering my Sundance. It has some rough spots were the primer has gunked together or dust has gotten in it. What is the best grit sand paper to use to sand the primer before I get it ready for paint? Also, would primer sealer be advisable to help protect the primer? Thanks.

800 grit would work fine, use a DA sanders in the bigger areas and a sanding block on the smaller areas to level it all out

id use 400, then maybe 800 with a circular air sander Easier on the hands and elbows.... I dunno, Ive never done it to a whole car. Did you scuff the old paint before you primered?

I took the paint off. And I removed near all of the original primer as well. I'm having trouble figureing out how to sand the door jams and inside hood and trunk area though. And that's a hell of a lot of hand sanding.

Well in the jams it still has the original paint. And hand sanding the original paint is VERY tedious.

As far as the rest I'm looking at:

    Prime it
    Sand with 800 (as suggested)
    Prime it again
    Sand it again
    Fill in any low spots
    Sand
Check again then paint if all is good

when i removed the orignal paint i used this paint/epoxy remover compound i got from home depot..that thing does wonders..removes all the paint and primer in a matter of seconds. went all the way down to the urethane without damaging it. A LOT faster and easier than sanding.

Wow, do you know what it was called? I got some stuff that was supposed to do that before, and it sucked. Took off a little bit of clear coat and that's it. I followed the directions to a "T" including making sure it was the correct temperature.

with the primer that had gunked is that surfacer or sealer? if its surfacer just wet sand that lightly with 600grit it should be good den re-spray with primer surfacer again...after you wet sand with 600 grit the surfacer get wen its nice and smooth then spray 1-2 coats of primer sealer not to heavy and lay basecoat

I presume it's surfacer as I've not put any sealer on it. Is there a special sealer for primer?
